Am I crazy?

I work in the city and can't stand the commute from LI...but I do love my job so I deal.

Anyway, a random job opp came up in my own town, and being preggo with #2, I throught why not apply.

So I have a phone interview today but I'm also almost 8 months pregnant. Am I crazy? Anyone take a new job this late in pregnancy? I don't even know if they would consider me once finding out. The timing is not ideal but I am not getting much maternity leave from my current job so that's not a huge deal.

The thought of working so close to home is very appealing.....

A close friend of mine started a new job right before she gave birth to her first child. But it was a great opportunity so she couldn't pass it up. I don't think you're crazy! You never know what may come of it. I also work far from home so I totally understand how much easier it would be to work closer to home. Good luck with the interview!

If it's something you'd like to do and they are willing to take you 8 months pregnant...I would absolutely consider it! The shorter commute alone would convice me.

Re: Am I crazy?

I did.
I started my current job at 7 months pregnant.
My concern was they wouldn't hire me at that point- for fear I'd have the baby and never come back.

But my situation was a bit different- the hiring manager was my boss from past jobs. He had moved on to a new company and wanted me to come over for a year. When he was finally able to get an opening approved for me, I was pregnant.
I told him and he said- so what?
I said- well i doubt they will hire a woman who is going out to have a baby in a few short months.

He said he would go to bat for me And he did. When the higher ups voiced concerns about me coming back after the baby, he vouched for me saying he had worked with me for years and knew I was certainly coming back, I needed to work etc

So they hired me.

I started in late April and had my DD in late June.

The only problem was- I had not accrued ANY time off. So I had to take the whole leave unpaid ( they did advance me one week of vacation time that I had to accrue back over time) but that was it.
So i only took 8 weeks- I couldn't afford any more.

But other than that, it was the best decision ever!
5 years later I am still here and have been promoted to a manager.

I was so miserable in my old job and I had high BP in pregnancy. When I made the move, at my next dr appt the dr said to me, wow your BP is down, what's going on?
I told him I took a new job that i loved and my stress level had dropped/

It can totally work out!

That's really encouraging...good to know it's possible. I just don't know when to mention I am so far along, if at all (phone interview).

They can't not hire you solely because you're pregnant. That being said, I think you'd have to be ok with taking a VERY short maternity leave since they probably want to fill the position quickly.

I was working in the city through my entire pregnancy. I had a job interview the last day of my maternity leave. Got the offer the next day, and quit on my 3rd day back. I now work on LI. So I can attest that the shorter commute is much better with kids at home.

I'd hang in there and see how this job plays out. If they love you, they'll find a way to make it work.
