Frustrated..

I've been working out what seems to be all my life. Now I'm looking to get lean and muscular and loose body fat. I have a very curvy body, big hips, small waist. And while people think I'm crazy for wanting to change my body image, it's just something I've always wanted to do. So I've been working out like crazy for the past 4 weeks, jumping rope with ankle weights doing about 2k jumps in 20 minutes, doing a lot of leg workout with weights and some upper body workout using my own body weight. I change my workouts to trick my body. I do workout 5-6 times a week.
Here's where my frustration comes. 4 weeks of intense working out and I have gain 2 inches on my hips. I'm not a fan of scale so I don't have one and really don't care for one. I always measure myself and keep track with that. My pants are fitting tight in that area. Why is this happening?? I do have a big booty which I also want to slim down, is that even possible? I want it to be more muscular and have more of a round-up shape.. Doing a lot of booty workout and I know it's working because I feel sore the next day.
So is it my eating?? I think I eat healthy.. Wake up at 5am to workout for an hour, eat a boiled egg at 7am. Oatmeal with blueberries at 9:30am. I make this with water and no sugar. Green tea at 11am. At 12:30pm I'll have quinoa salad. At 3pm I'll have crackers with peanut butter and for dinner I'll eat a salad with chicken. Cut all alcohol and dessert. I go to bed at 10-11pm to get enough rest for my workout. And I drink about a gallon of water every day.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??? WHY AM I GOING UP IN INCHES? I feel so discourage to the point where I just want to give up

The only thing that I have started using is the RSP Fast Fuel pre-workout supplement. Upon recommendations to help with my workout. Do you think this could be a factor?

Sorry for the long post and if you read this far, thanks for reading. Just feel so frustrated and although I have a 2 year goal, its so very discouraging when you are giving it your all and inches are going up rather than down.

Frustrated..

Do you feel it is fat gain or muscle gain. I wouldn't us the weights to jump rope. That will build muscle. Your diet looks good and the pre workout wouldn't be a factor. Don't feel discouraged.

I feel it's fat gain. The reason why I use weights with the jump rope is because I do want definition on my legs and build some muscles. I started to blame it on the pre workout but I guess that isn't it. Thanks for answering.

Do you measure the quantity of food you are eating? You can gain weight eating healthy foods if you eat too much of them! I would weigh everything on a food scale and create a calorie deficit.

I do not and honestly never thought about it. I usually cook 1 cup of quinoa and that would last me 3-4 days. I make it with black beans and vegetable, no meat. For other days I'll cook whole wheat pasta and make turkey meatballs. Maybe I'm eating too much of it. I do usually eat my heavy meals during lunch and for dinner stick with something light like salad.

I voiced my frustration with my husband this afternoon and he claims that maybe I'm not eating enough. He said I need to load up more on food since I'm using heavier weights. Does this sound accurate?

I always bulk up when I start a new workout. I am petite and fit an at a low weight, but am not "long and lean" at all. I always look a little more compact when I start. I started doing pure barre because it promises long and lean muscles and even noticed I bulked up a little after starting that. I scoured the Internet for an explanation and found this from another fitness studio. It explained what I was seeing and after a year of barre/strength training I can say I am definitely leaner now than when I started. I also think jump roping with weights, in fact i think most leg work with weights, will add bulk, not lengthen. Quads especially are prone to bulking. When I think of exercises to lean and lengthen, I think more of yoga, Pilates etc. Anyway I hope the link below helps!

No. If you are eating less than you burn you will lose weight.

Your workouts sound good & I would bet it's muscle gain & not fat. Maybe cut back on the leg workouts since you gain muscle easy (I wish I did!) & incorporate more running, hiit & even upper body weights that get your heart rate up.

If you really want to see a difference, try measuring & logging your food for a week. Increase your protein intake to your body weight in grams (so if you're 120lbs, try to get at least 120grams/day) & cutting back on carbs to about 30% of your daily intake (so if you're eating 1700cal/day, carbs would be about 125-130grams/day). Fat is ok at about 25-30% (about 50-60grams/day on a 1700cal diet).

You can also cut out all sauces (extra fat, sugar, sodium) & just try seasonings or mustard on your food. Maybe swap whole eggs for egg whites & have 3 or 4 at a time (bigger breakfast).

ETA: I did a 30-day online challenge & I still have the plans if you want me to email it to you. It's intense (workouts 5-6 days a week, eating every 2 hours, meal prep, etc) but I dropped lots of bodyfat... to the point where I felt too skinny (but still fit)

This! If you are in a severe deficit then you will store all you eat.

You need to keep a food journal and measure your food. Then figure out how many calories you are burning and adjust from there. Also, up the protein and decrease the carbs. I can get lean if I cut almost all carbs except what is in veggies etc. I am not naturally thin but can get myself pretty lean.

There are studies that show that too much of a calorie deficit in combination with heavy exercise routine will cause you to not lose weight. A huge calories deficit can hurt your metabolism.

I didn't say starvation mode, but there are multiple studies which prove staying too low calorie combined with exercise will prevent fat loss and promote your body feeding on muscle tissue. It is also damaging to your metabolism and can cause a host of other problems. Just not a good road to go down.

Count calories, exact calories by measuring etc., for a full week and see where you typically fall. Also, examine how many calories are coming from fats, protein, and carbs. Sometimes the same # of calories but adjusting those numbers makes huge differences.
