CSE and busing (Queens)
My twins are in CPSE and I know we will have a meeting to transition them to CSE and for kindergarten next year. They get busing now to their preschool. I heard with CSE and elementary school, busing is not automatic. That there must be a severe medical need in order to qualify (which my kids don't have). Anyone have experience with this?

What type of program will they be in? District 75 is automatic door to door bussing. They'd need a medical reason for air conditioning and limited run time.

I'm not exactly sure yet, but I'm pretty sure they won't be in District 75. Right now they are each in a 12:1:2 self contained class. The goal is to eventually move them to integrated (one may be moved to integrated later this year possibly and one may not be ready until kindergarten) with the goal to eventually mainstream them by 1st or 2nd grade of course this all depends on how they do. But so far they have been progressing pretty well.

Re: CSE and busing (Queens)
If your children are not attending a district 75 school then I am assuming they are in a pubic school in Queens. I teach elementary in Queens. We have self contained and Co-teaching special ed classes. Many of those children are bused in because not every school has these classes so they don't live in our zone and are therefore bused in. I do know that the children that are in the self contained classes that do live in our zone get door to door buses. I'm not sure about the children in the co-teaching classes. You have to talk to the busing coordinator in the school your children are going to and speak to the Special Ed coordinator as well. Usually that is an assistant principal or a senior special ed teacher. Feel free to PM me.

Re: CSE and busing (Queens)
Thanks so much for your reply. Very helpful! For now, I guess I just have to wait and see what the recommendations are for kindergarten for them (self-contained or integrated). I spoke with their school and they said they have a big meeting in January for all the parents whose children are transitioning to kindergarten and they will review everything. She said evals and recommendations will happen between Jan-April and we will have a meeting to discuss. I guess once all that's done and I have an idea where they will be attending kindergarten, I will definitely go take a look at the school and talk to them about busing.
I'm just getting stressed because I can theoretically bring them to school before work but I really will have no way to get them to my in-laws (they watch them for me when they get home from school-bus drops them off there). I even considered paying a private bus company (although not sure how much this would be) to bring them to their house after school but I am worried what if they act up? The bus company probably won't be responsible for them. One of my kids is really bad on the bus on the way home (I think he is so tired after school and cranks out) and the bus driver is always telling my mother in law he tried to hit his brother, etc. and they are always having to stop him. Hoping they mature a lot in this next year. although one of them told me he doesn't want to turn 4 and had a fit about us talking to celebrate their birthday next month!!
