Hospital Freebies

Will be delivering at NSUH Manhasset...

What kind of freebies does the hospital give you for mama and baby?

Did you have to ask for it or do they just give it to all patients?

Is it true they give a diaper bag full of goodies as a gift or did they do away with that?


First timer here and trying to figure out what I should buy and bring with me ahead of time.

Hospital Freebies

Didn't deliver there but generally they provide diapers, onesies, swaddle blankets, cloths to use as wipes, and formula if you need. Everything but the formula should be in the bassinet. I kept taking diapers and then asking for more.

For mom, they generally provide dermoplast, pads, peri bottle, witch hazel pads, chux. My hospital didn't provide mesh undies but I brought depends anyway.

I just delivered there. In addition to all of the above, they give you a nursing cover. I think they also gave a diaper bag but it's not one that's useful.

NSLIJ NHP gives a small diaper bag. I love it and I know a lot of people who use it. But it's more of a quick run in and out. I just throw wipes, diapers for 2 kids, a bottle, formula and sippy cup in it for easy carrying. I need a larger bag for changes of clothes, food, etc.

I have gotten the handheld breastpump, bulb syringes for snots, diapers, extra formula, diaper bag of goodies, baby knit hats, etc.

Basically, anything they give you to use that they can't wash and more...

Also, you can load up on anything they put in the cart when they bring in your baby in your room for feedings... diapers, butt cream, etc.

Don't be shy about asking for things. Hospitals will usually give them to you if they have it and there are things I think they will just throw them out because they sure aren't giving a used breastpump to another patient!

I delivered there late July but didn't get half the stuff you ladies did. Maybe because DS was in the NICU for a week. I was given formula, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, ointments, nursing pads, nipple butter, models BF supplies.
