Endometrial ablation or hysterectomy of the uterus

If you had either of these could you please share which one, why you needed it and what it was like (procedure and recovery). I have to decide between these 2 and I feel so unsure. Any insight on either would be helpful. Thank you

I had an endometrial ablation since my periods were very heavy and long. I had it done about a year ago. I still get all the symptoms of my period but very little to no spotting. I had it done at NS in Manhasset at the ambulatory center. I took a day off after. Good luck!

had a hysterectomy in july. best thing i ever did. single inscision through the belly button, no external stitches, and i was allowed back in the pool, literally the next day. needed pain meds overnight the 1st night, and by 11am the next morning, that was it. no need for meds, felt fine. and no longer have issues or a need for medication. btw, still have the ovaries since i'm in my early 40's. they took everything else, and i couldn't be happier with the result. recovery was literally nothing. if you need the name of the doc, pm me. i went to one in my regular practice, and they bumped me to this guy, he's leading expert on the single incision procedure.

oh, and why i needed it, severe cramping, heavy bleeding, and depo-provera wasn't working anymore to control it. and i had no intention of ever having more kids. i asked my doc for it, at first they weren't thrilled because of my age, but after seeing the side effects of the last depo shot, which was an absolute disaster, they agreed it was the best choice for me. and again, couldn't be happier with the results.

I had a hysterectomy with ovary & tube removal in 2012 for endometrial cancer.

The surgery itself wasn't that bad because it was a laparoscopic procedure. I was in & out of the hospital in about 12 hours-morning surgery-didn't stay overnight. I mostly felt stiff for about a week, but I was able to walk around the house, just slowly. I just couldn't lift things & getting in & out of bed was a struggle the first few nights. I think I felt like myself in about 7-10 days & at 2 weeks I spent an afternoon walking around Central Park. I would just get tired easily.

Mine was robotically assisted laparoscopy- there were 5 small incisions. Another doctor I consulted with was going to do a more traditional laparoscopy, and that would have been 3 incisions.

I can't recommend my doctor because he is specifically a surgical oncologist, but I would look into minimally invasive surgeries.
