1. STOP LOOKING AT PICTURES!
2. Any specific questions? Recovery, you'll want to sleep upright for a few days. Laying down, bending over will make your head pound. Limit caffeine, same reason. Take the pain pills a few hours before you go for your first doctor appointment after surgery.

Re: Septoplasty -deviated septum surgery
i had it done about 5 1/2 years ago. Best thing ever. I slept a lot after and stayed in our bedroom since we had a 1 year old at the time. Basically slept sitting upright for the most part. I did have a bad headache for the first 2 days. Bending over hurt so you won't be shaving your legs for a bit.
Don't make the mistake i made and not shave and then get a pedicure during that time frame. I felt so bad when the guy lifted my pants leg. I was mortified.

Within 3 days. One of my surgeries it was the next day, and the other surgery was Monday (but I had surgery on Friday, so of course the office was not open.)
For the deviated septum, they took out the packing and the splint during the same visit.
Take some of your meds an hour or so before you go for those appointments, even if you don't feel you need it. It's not really that painful but better to be loaded then sober.
Also have someone bring you to your appointment, of course. Because you'll be on those pain meds and you may be a little dizzy after they pull out the packing and splints.

Also, if you're not also a veteran Neil-Med user, goto the store before your surgery to get it and understand how to use it and try it out.
They will probably have you rinse a few times a day after the packing/splint removal.

Once I had it out the next day, so maybe yours will too.
And they also told me that I would not need a splint, but I did so they put them in. Don't be too upset if you need to get it.

I am usign Dr Shitkowitz at LIJ
Dr Bergson at Good Sam.
I have lots of sinus problems. My first surgery I had my deviated septum fixed, sinuses reduced and polyps removed. The polyps grew back, so 2 years later he had to go back in and remove more polyps.
I need surgery again now (its been another 2 years) for more polyps (they just keep on coming back) and my Dr actually told me to go see your doctor at NSLIJ, that he may be able to be more aggressive with the surgery so it will stop my polyps from coming back or a better procedure or something.
So now I have questions for you.
How long is it to get an appointment with him? And how long to schedule the surgery? Is it months, or do they have fast turnaround?

1st off, DEF HIGHLY rec him he took my sisters tonsils out and she loved him- and his bed side manner
He has office hours 2-3 days a week and Surgery on Tue & Thurs
i saw him March 6th for the initial appointment and scheduled my apt for this thursday. His office visits are the WORST he is sooooo busy, but VERY knowledgeable and smart. He is doing my Deviated septum and sinus surgery.
PM me w questions if you need- but to keep going thru this surgery is crazy

OK, a month isn't so bad. I've had to wait a few months for the other doctor to get an opening for the operating room, so I was wondering how long I can let this go before going to see him.
Thanks for the info. It is crazy, which is why I've been looking for alternative medicine to try to control it, or at least prolong time between surgery!

Great news. After the first few days and you have figured out what not to do, there isn't much pain. Its more annoying!
I wonder if they always tell everyone they wont get a splint, full well knowing that you will. Just so people don't freak out about it beforehand.
Soon you will be welcomed back into the world of the breathing.

I still get sinus infections, about 3 a year. Better than what I was before. But I also have severe recurring nasal polyps.
I'm actually going to be part of a clinical trial this month for a new in office polyp removal tool and sinus stent. They'll do the procedure I usually get under general anesthesia in the office without any anesthesia at all.
