IUI and multiples
Hi Ladies,
I am not pregnant yet, but I have a question. Is there anyone here who conceived through an IUI and got multiples?? I am going in for my first IUI next week and wanted to know if anyone did this and got multiples as a result.
TIA!

Re: IUI and multiples
I conceived a singleton and then twins via IUI. I only had 1-2 dominant follicles each time, too. I would just be open to the possibility of twins because it's definitely likely!

I had 3 follies that resulted in .
Then I had 2 follies that resulted in .
For my second time, the RE was convinced I would have twins. I wouldn't have minded twins my first time around, but the thought of a toddler and twins was .

IUI and multiples
I did IUI with clomid and I'm only pregnant with one. My RE told me that only 6% of those WHO GET PREGNANT with IUI and clomid have multiples (although I have read stats up to 10%). IUI alone doesn't increase your chances of multiples any more than if you conceived naturally (just increases your chance of getting pregnant). Some of the risk of clomid can be moderated by monitoring your follicles. The cycle can always be cancelled if there are a lot of follicles, which would make your chances even higher.

IUI and multiples
I had an IUI with clomid that resulted in twins. Unfortunately I lost them both and then had another IUI with clomid and I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant with one. It could go either way depending on how many follicles you have.

Are you on Clomid, Gonal or anything to stimulate follicles? Whenever you go through IF treatments like IUI or IVF, there is a high likelihood that you could have multiples. I guess I just assumed you were on meds. If not, then your chance of having multiples isn't uich more than it would be if you conceived unassisted.

No I'm not on any medications, no clomid nothing. The doctor wants to try a few cycles if need be with just office monitoring.

Re: IUI and multiples
1st IUI = 1 baby (sadly lost at 8 weeks) 2nd IUI = 1 baby currently 18 weeks... I had 6 mature follicles and was warned about multiples (more then 2) but just 1 took!

Re: IUI and multiples
I did Gonal with an IUI. My RE swore he only saw one good Follicle (I was actually a little disappointed, I was hoping for a better chance). Well he was definitely wrong, bc I got pregnant with Quads. At 10 weeks we lost 1 of the Quads. I gave birth at 30 weeks to healthy beautiful BBG triplets.
I think with an IUI you definitely have to be open to the possibility of multiples.
PS- I am now 25 weeks pregnant with my bonus baby (my triplets are 4.5). It was a natural pregnancy after I was told I had a VERY low chance of carrying a pregnancy without any drugs.

Re: IUI and multiples
If you're not on any meds, then you're no more likely to have multiples than your average woman who to have a baby.
It's the meds that encourage multiple follicles (mature eggs) which can lead to multiple babies. If you're doing it naturally, you'll most likely just have one follicle, and one baby if you get pregnant.

IUI and multiples
I did 5 IUI cycles - all medicated the last one I switched the medication and did Gonal F injections. I'm almost 15 weeks pregnant with healthy Twins! We were told there was a chance of multiples but 4 medicated cycles before that we got nothing. Last one worked.
