Friend's dog has cancer
And the vet says probably no more than six months... but she doesn't think it will even be that long.
I am so sad for my friend. She is a HUGE animal lover and all of her dogs/cats/etc are rescues. She treats them all as well as she treats her kids.
I wanted to get her something when her poor baby does eventually pass away, but I don't know what. I guess maybe it seems a little crude to be thinking ahead, as the dog hasn't even died yet. I just wanted to have enough time to find something perfect. Something to celebrate the lives of all the rescues she's helped/will help in the future as well as to let her know that what she is does for her rescues is so very noble and appreciated.
Any suggestions? I will go haunt Etsy for a while, but I just have no idea where to even start.
I feel so bad for her... she is so heartbroken by this.

Re: Friend's dog has cancer
When my cousin's dog passed away from cancer her mom had a painting done of her fur baby. When the time was right she gave it to her.
Not sure if she plans on cremating but they also have necklaces you can put ashes in.
Sorry for her beloved pet.

Re: Friend's dog has cancer
So sad...my friend had the same thing happen about 3 weeks ago...the dog was fine but stopped eating for a day...they took him to the vet and he had an advanced aggressive cancer...he died a week later at home My friend is the same way, this dog was her child and she rescues other animals. She was devastated, he was only 9 years old. I sent flowers to the house the next day and her and her mom really appreciated it. So maybe flowers when it first happens and then later on give something more personal.

Friend's dog has cancer
I know of someone who makes pottery and adds fur or hair to make the piece special.
when my dog was diagnosed with cancer I could not stop crying, when I had to put her down, the cards I received meant so much to me.

I'm so sorry, and I'm sending prayers for your friend.
Hmm...I'm wondering...could you offer to have a mold made of his paw prints out of clay? That way, she could always have those paw prints.

Re: Friend's dog has cancer
When our friends dog passed recently we bought a stone with a paw print and the dogs name on it for her. The fur mommy actually found someone who makes jewelry.

Friend's dog has cancer
Thank you all for the suggestions. So far they are both hanging in there. The dog is still comfortable, so she is just spending lots of time with her while she can.
I just feel so bad.
I kind of like the idea of some kind of jewelry or a keychain or something that she can have with her. That might be an avenue to explore... maybe something with a paw print and the dog's name on it.
I love the idea of making something with the dog's actual paw prints, but would that be weird? Asking to get an imprint now, while the dog is still alive? I just don't want to seem insensitive, either... thoughts?

It was just a generic paw print. Sorry if I explained it wrong.

No, no, no! No need to apologize! I totally got what you were saying, and that is the direction I am leaning towards (something with a generic paw print). A previous poster had mentioned the idea of making imprints of the dogs actual paw prints so my friend could always have them; and I loved that idea. It's so personalized and how great would it be to always be able to see her *actual* paw prints, you know? But I am just unsure of how to go about doing that... afraid I might come across as insensitive. So, will likely go the generic route.
But I am thinking I might take imprints of my own two girls paws now so that whenever that time ultimately comes, I can give them to my daughter (who will, undoubtedly, be crushed).
