Talk to me about hair extensions, please...

Which kind did you have (braided in, glued in, etc.)?

How long did they last?

Did it kill your hair when you took them out?

Who put them in and how much did the cost of extensions and putting them in cost?

Thank you!

Talk to me about hair extensions, please...

I got them about 10 weeks ago. Mine are keratin bonded in (it's basically glue made of keratin - supposed to be better than the old fashioned glue).

A few fall out over time which is totally normal. My girl has you come in and get a "fill in" after about 8-10 weeks to replace any that fell out and any that are loosening up.

I find them very low maintenance. I wash my hair so much less frequently now. I style it w curling iron or flat iron and it legitimately lasts 4-5 days looking great.

I haven't taken them out so can't comment on that. My girl swears that if you take care of them (i.e. Don't let them get tangly or knotted, which a lot of people do) they will not damage your hair. With my type, a solution is applied to break down the glue and then they slide right off. I saw another girl getting hers taken out at the salon and her hair looked fine to me afterwards. For me it was worth the risk. I was so sick of my fine, impossible hair.

Although low maintenance , there are certain things you must do like sleep with your hair tied back (preferably a braid but I just do a high ponytail). You need to keep them from tangling while sleeping. You also cannot sleep with them wet or damp at all. They will get matted together. I also go through them with my fingers a lot to make sure they are all separated. The biggest risk from what I've been told is them getting knotted together -that's when your hair will suffer damage/breakage.

I live out of state so unfortunately can't recommend my stylist, which i would otherwise do in a heartbeat. But the brand I have is called Socap. It's human hair. I got 200 pieces put in originally and it cost just under 2,000$. A lot, I know, but worth it to me. getting dressed up and going out is so much more fun when you have fab hair :)

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm sure I'm forgetting to cover everything!

Eta- If you look on google there are some very unattractive photos of hair extensions. If not done well, it can be pretty bad. So definite research and find someone reputable if possible!
