Re: Dubai, Bali, Singapore, Shanghai

I've been to all four places before having kids.

Burj Al Arab is amazing. Ski Dubai is cute. The shopping is over the top. I felt the shopping areas were better than 5th Ave shopping. I smoked hookah at the One and Only resort. Jumeriah Mina al Salem had a lot of great restaurants. I was surprised how good the food was.

Bali temple sightseeing is a must. I was disappointed with the beaches. The tiny crabs in the sand totally freaked me out. Multiple beautiful resorts with great spas.

Singapore has some of the best food in the world. I only had 2 days there and I am dying to go back to those outdoor hawker food markets. AMAZING AMAZING seafood. I'm getting hungry thinking of the famous Singaporean chili crab.

Shanghai pudong district is very impressive. I personally did not like the Chinese food in China. I think I like Cantonese southern Chinese food and was not used to northern Chinese food because I never had it before. Grand Hyatt at the jin mao building is really cool.

I stayed at the Ritz in Dubai. If I were to book today, I would probably stay at the One and Only or Jumeriah next to Burj in Dubai. If you can afford it, stay at Burj al Arab. I think it was like $5k a night when I went.

I can't remember which resort we stayed in Bali. My friend booked that one. I don't think I will return to Bali anytime soon. DH has conferences in Dubai and Singapore in 2016 though. I plan to tag along without the kids. I really loved both Singapore and Dubai. LOVE!

originally, we were just going to go to Vietnam but the beaches did not look good at all. If Bali is that bad, maybe we will extend singapore a few more days. We both really need a couple of days to sit on a beach and do nothing though. On vacation, we are up by 6 am and dont stop til 10 at night. complete maniacs! lol

My friend went to Bali for her honeymoon and had an amazing time. Our hotel pool was wonderful. I was just freaked out by the little crabs on the beach. Maybe they are not everywhere.

My overall experience in Indonesia just was not great. I flew into Jakarta and I did not feel safe there. Bali felt very safe. I should add that some of my favorite photographs in my 20's were taken in Bali. The backdrop is beautiful.

Have you been to Thailand? I liked Phuket much better in that area of the world. Phi Phi Island had the most lovely beaches with awesome snorkeling.

Jumeriah beach in Dubai is also a nice beach to check out in the Juneriah Beach Resort area. Burj al Arab is an amazing hotel. If you can't stay there, go there for a visit. Even better if you take a private yacht tour and see it from the water. All the Jumeriah hotels are very nice.

We are flying in to bali and out of jakarta ?? because we are spending a few days visiting temples prambanan( sp?)

we went to Thailand last yr and it was the best vacation i have ever taken! We did not go to Phuket because we wanted to avoid all the tourists. Went to bangkok, chiang mai and aonang. I could go back every year and be happy.

Yes, I love Thailand. I went twice before getting married. DH has never been. I was just saying that we should go there next winter break with the kids. Thailand has the best spas in the world. I enjoyed the Oriental Spa so much as well as the $5 foot massages.

Not sure how old your kids are but how would you go about bringing kids in tuktuks? I'm trying to figure that out and I don't have any yet lol!

There was a place were you get massages by ex prisoners. My SO said no to that. It had fantastic ratings, too. Lol.

I would skip Vietnam for the beaches but visit for Halong Bay (was one of my fave places).

Not sure how many kids you have but two/three can be seated on the actual seat and two can sit on the floor of the tuk tuk. We happened to split a trip with strangers in Thailand and this was how they made us sit.

Btw- have a great trip! I cant wait for the kids to get older because I seriously want to travel again!!!

Went to Bali for our honeymoon. Stayed in a private villa with a pool. The beaches were not great. The temples are amazing. You can go to the volcanoe and go the spa there. There is also black sand beach, wild dolphin watching. We flew from South Korea to Bali.

I didn't like Indonesia at all. I'm currently in Singapore and I am in love. I could see myself living here without a problem.
