IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
I was informed by my nurse that I should take my last BC pill this Friday. On Tuesday I will start my monitoring and meds (we should be receiving them over the weekend hopefully). Due to male infertility our doctor is prescribing the ICSI method. At the end of the message my nurse asked if we wanted to know the gender/if we have a preference (we don't want to know and do not have a preference). It's all so crazy that they are going to choose a male or female embryo. I just keep telling myself that as much as they get to choose it's still out of their hands whether or not the embryo takes and we leave that up to faith. It just all seems so real and is so hard not to get excited/hopeful. I'd rather expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised because it's always so much more painful to have your our hopes crushed. Nonetheless we're about to step on the emotional roller coaster that is IVF!

Good luck! Hoping everything goes well. I have never heard of a Dr. or practice asking their patient about transferring a specific sex unless you pay to spin the sperm. I'll be stoked if our Dr. gives us that option. He didn't last time.

Thanks for the good wishes! She mentioned that because we're doing the PGD CCS testing we are able to know the gender (and that with ICSI they put just the one sperm into the egg). I remember first hearing about choosing the sex of your baby through ivf years ago and thinking how only celebrities could do it. It's crazy how far we've come in this area of medicine. If we end up fortunate enough to have multiple children of the same sex someday then maybe we'll share a preference with our doctor for the next one .

Re: IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
Good luck! I start IVF in January because of th shut down of the lab around the holidays. I'm doing ICSI because of my age. Would love to do PGD but can't afford to. Honestly, I have a son and would kill to have a girl so yes I would make the choice if I was lucky enough to be given it (ie a number of healthy embryos with good grading allowing a choice of embryos being put in). It is crazy how far things have come! Hope everything goes well!

AH! Yes, with PGD that is definitely possible. GOOD LUCK!

IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
Good Luck!!!
I had the ICSI procedure done, because of my age. Did not do gender selection but have a 2 year old DD and a 3 month old (almost 4 month old) DS.

Same here. I did ICSI but did not do gender selection. I have 7 year old boy and a 7 month old girl.

Re: IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
I also did IVF with ICSI but we did not have the PGD testing done but I think we wouldn't have wanted to know the sex either the first time we did IVF...BUT this second time around we would love to have a boy. That test is just too expensive though so we are leaving it up to that 50/50 chance LOL
good luck

Thanks so much for asking!! Today my nurse confirmed tonight should be my last night of injections. I go back tomorrow morning for one last monitoring and should be instructed to take the trigger shot at night. Egg retrieval is tentatively set for this Sunday. I'm bloated and crampy which was to be expected. I asked the doctor if she could tell how many eggs we would get and she said they wouldn't be able to fully say until they got in there but that she's pretty sure I'll have a good number of them. Fingers crossed!!!

Re: IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
Thank you! ER is confirmed for Sunday, I will be taking the trigger shot tonight. I'm relieved to stop taking the menopur and ganirelix. The Gonal F wasn't bad.
There is a little fluid in my lining which they want to monitor before the fresh transfer (if we are able to do one). The doctor said it should go away once I start the progesterone and that it's just a little bit.
I feel like each sono I count a different number of follicles. There were a good amount of mature ones but not a ton. I am trying not to read into it and will just wait and see after retrieval since it is out of my hands. Fingers crossed!!

Re: IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
I am having a similar dilemma. I am thinking about doing pgd to eliminate the possibility of twins. However, I am unsure if I should also choose a gender.

How would PGD eliminate the possibility of twins? You mean you would transfer 1 embryo that they have tested vs. two without testing?

Re: IVF Cycle Start and ICSI
Yes, they only put in one embryo. I can also choose the sex. I don't if that is weird or not. Without this I would have two random embryos place and it would be a surprise. Also, they said with pgd you do a fet, so the chances of success are higher.
