WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

My due date was yesterday and I have been sticking pretty close to home. DH is not comfortable with me driving even 10 mins to the Dr tomorrow, but he plans to go to work 1.5 hours away in the city. Chat Icon

Did you ladies drive when you were hugely pregnant around your due date? He's worried I'll start having contractions while driving. I think I'm OK...more worried about him being so far at this stage. My first labor was extremely quick (just a few hours) so I'm planning for anything at this point.

I'm going to drive to my pre surgical testing the day before my c-section. The hospital is about a half hour away. DH is already taking enough time off work, I don't want him taking a day just to drive me for blood work.

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I had no issues driving by myself till I delivered at 41 weeks up to an hr away( had a super fast delivery too) . I would go much past an hour because it hurt to sit that long hehe

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I worked until the end so I drove.
I wasn't huge though- and I felt fine and never uncomfy or too big.

And going into labor is usually a slow process. Mine progressed slowly for a few days. It wasn't like I would be driving to the store and BAM I'm 9 cm and ready to push

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

With #1 I went to 41wks and my doctor was a 45 min drive. In the end I was going there every week, including on my due date. Never had an issue with it.

With this one my Dr is right down the road, and I'm working up until the very end. I do work from home though so it's a little different I guess. Now with 8 days till my due date I'm still out and about, running errands and taking DD to school & dance, etc. I plan to continue to live normally until I deliver this baby. I don't see why driving would be an issue unless you have specific problems or concerns.

I was a week late and drove all the time. I had a huge argument with DH because I actually wanted to drive myself to the hospital while in labor with contractions coming 3/4 minutes apart. Ha!

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I worked and drove 45 minutes from home until the day before my water broke (broke as I was waking up for work), right at my due date. And I would have kept doing it had I been a week late...

Same. And I was HUGE. I was walking around 4cm dilated for at least a week, waiting to "go at any minute" as per my OB and I still drove.

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I drove with them all. Even with my 4th who was 10 days late this week I was driving around the day I gave birth. I wouldn't go far away but you will be fine going to the dr.

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I literally drove when I was in labor. I drove from work to the dr to home. I had what I thought were Braxton hicks - tightening and minimal cramping. I had DS 4-5 hours later.

WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I drove myself to my second csection ( I prefer to drive) and worked until 2 days before and drove.. I guess I wasn't over due but unless you don't feel well I think it's ok

Re: WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I'm maybe not a good story to go by, but I drove myself to the hospital (from Queens into Manhattan) while I was in labor. To be fair, I didn't know I was in labor when I left the house, but somewhere around the Midtown Tunnel I started feeling contractions. They weren't strong and so I was fine to keep driving.

Chances are, if you're driving at the start of your labor, you'd be fine. Most people don't go into active labor for hours from the time they first start feeling contractions.

Same. Also I worked until the end, which is about a 40-45 min drive each way. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

I'm another girl who drove herself an hour from work to my house before heading off to the hospital while at 3 cm in labor.

So I vote keep on trucking.

WWYD: Overdue and Driving?

I think everyone around me didn't want me to drive! Towards the end of my pregnancy everyone offered to pick me up to go places. My mom even took me to my last couple doctor appointments bc my DH couldn't make it. I drove small distances like to my parents house, grocery store and stuff like that.
