EI to CPSE meeting/evals--I am so confused-please help

I am a little confused about this. I have twins in CPSE so I know what that process is. But they weren't in EI first.

My LO just started services in EI about a month ago but his 3rd birthday is May so my service coordinator said to start the process.

I finally received the packet from the school district with the consent forms, etc. I spoke with an agency that is through the district today and we have a meeting set up for January to sign consents and do evals if needed, but I wasn't too clear on this.

My son's evals were done late September/early October (except the psychological which was just done 2 weeks ago). I got my service coordinator to email the agency all of the evals. When I asked the agency do I even need new evals considering he was literally just evaluated and just started services, she couldn't give me a straight answer.

Also, she was saying how I would need a script for new evals? I said well I have scripts for his therapy, that is how he is receiving services, but she said this was for evals, but I don't know if she's correct?

I feel like I'm stumbling in the dark over here. My service coordinator is wonderful but she is not really involved at all with the CPSE side. Also, the agency asked what services and the duration he was currently receiving and I told them but I just realized wouldn't they want to see a copy of his IFSP to see what his goals are and what he was approved for? Why didn't they ask me for this?

Can anyone shed some light here that has been through this process? TIA.

When my son transitioned they let me use some of his evals that had been done in the past few months. For example he got evaluated for OT and PT in November though EI and it was March when CPSE did the evals, so they just used the evals from EI for those since it was just done a few months prior.. they also looked at the most recept IFSP report from his speech therapist... but the only evals they did for DS was a Psych eval and an eval from the Social Worker which included social history. I did have to get a script from the doctor for the evals.

ETA they did ask what therapies and how many times a week he was getting them, and they basically approved him with the same amount of sessions in CPSE but also my DS' scores were very low (which makes me think I could have asked for more).

Ok. Thanks. I don't know why but this process is baffling me I guess because I feel like I'm getting shuffled. I asked my service coordinator to send a copy of the IFSP. I figured what can it hurt. I'm of the mind, the more information the better!

Weird also how they need a script for new evals I guess I just don't understand why a prescription would be needed for an evaluation? Did the agency tell you which scripts to get and then you contacted your ped?

They should tell you ahead of time which evals they will be doing so you can get your ped to write a script. I know the process is confusing!

My daughter just had 3 Evals and no script was needed. What's your district and agency?

Maybe queens does it differently since it's a different county. The whole process is very confusing though.

I work in queens and no matter how recent your EI evals are you still need to do CPSE evals and have a cpse meeting in order to continue services to august 31st. if your child is getting OT and PT i believe he will need a script for those evals. The agency must start with the psych eval and then the psychologist will recommend what evals come next. You can FM me if you feel more comfortable......its very important you have a good agency doing your evals if not they can take a long time to finish them and you don't want a delay on your meeting. I think you said your DS birthday is May so you are ahead of the game....i would definitely get them done ASAP though. Queens is VERY different from long island in this regard.

ETA: your service coordinator will have very little to do with this. They will steer you in the right direction and come to the meeting with you but thats about it.

Ask your pediatrician for 3 separate scripts for speech, OT and PT, then you have them if you need them. I think we only need them for OT and PT but my pediatrician was willing to write any script I asked for if it meant getting the services.
