Anyone star a new career in their mid 30's?
So, dh and I are moving OOS this summer. I would love to go back to school and get my degree in elementary education. Down south there are many more jobs. My fear is that I will not be hired as a 35 year old just starting out in the field. AM I wrong? Should I actually consider this? Will I be looked down on?

Well I'm becoming a nurse at 37, so I'm all for it! Why not?? What should age have to do with ability? I know that my 9 years as a mom of three has helped mature me and make me realize just how much I want this career. I know I'll be good at what I do and can offer life experience along with school. I say go for it and don't look back!

I'm going back for my second masters in Library Science and I'm in my early 30's. If there's jobs down there, go for it. I doubt they will even bat an eye at you being 35, especially since I've heard they're desperate for good teachers down there. Best of luck to you.

My district has hired people way older than mid-30s. Our last department hire is easily in her 50s. If you want to do it, I say go for it!

I've started a new career. Very different field and circumstances but just wanted to wish you luck. It was scary and difficult but 6 months in and I am tremendously happy. Definitely the best decision for me. I'm not sure where this path will go but I'm excited and enjoying work for the first time. Life is too short. Try to find something you enjoy!

My sister went to grad school with a woman in her late 40's who was starting over as a teacher after she raised her kids. She had no problem finding a job!

It's never too late. My DH's uncle is in his 50's, just went back to school to become a RN.

Re: Anyone star a new career in their mid 30's?
I switched from private sector business to teaching at 30.
It was not easy finding a job but it was definitely not because of my age. I just did not have the best timing.
I just changed schools right before I turned 37 and they clearly didn't care even though most of the teachers here are mid - late 20s.
Definitely do it!

Went back to school at 31 and got my BS/MBA in accounting over the next 4 years. I love my job and so happy I made the decision to change my career. It's never too late to pursue something you think you will love.

I graduated nursing school 3 years ago at 34 so yes.
I would say 50 percent of my classes were students older than me.

I did, but it wasnt something i needed to go back to school for. That may be a big deciding factor.

Yes, I did and its the best thing I ever did for myself. I graduated from Radiology school in May 2012. I was 38. I love it. I just got registered as a CT tech.

Re: Anyone star a new career in their mid 30's?
Do it! My mom started teaching elem ed and my aunt started her RN career in their 40s.
I think a lot of people re-consider their career after working a few years and /or having kids. Totally normal.
