Need to share.. my daughter's friend assignment..
I need to take a picture of it later.. but for the moment I wanted to squish her in hugs..
For her homework writing assignment, she was asked what makes a good friend. It was a long paragraph saying that a good friend can mean different things to different people. Think about what characteristics make up a good friend to you.
Her answer was 3 parts.
If she met a new kid and they were nice to others then they would be a good friend. - So she looks for people who are good to others.
Good Friends never hurt each other - She's learned this the hard way
Friends have fun even if it's been over a week - Which in the kid world is like forever, but she told me that even if it's been a long time since she's seen her friends, her friends still have fun, that's what friends do.
OMG She's such a little diva but she's growing into such a good little soul. Yes darling good friends are people that have the same values as you. That we in our house are always good to other people. Not based on what they look like, what they have but HOW they act to others. That is a great way to judge if they can be a friend. She said "Yeah like I don't want to be with people who are mean cause I'm not mean, who wants friends like that?"
Unfortunately, some may act nice only for the sake of self goals and then hurt you or others but REAL friends don't hurt you on purpose. She says "Like Anna stepped on my hand but it wasn't her fault it was an accident, she's still my friend, XXX isn't" (the girl from last year's mess). Right so real friends don't cause harm on purpose.
And good friends as shown by me and my own friends are few and far some times but when I meet up with my buddies from NYC or San Fran and Daddy's friends from NY and Virginia it's like we've never been apart. Because good friends have fun no matter how long it's been.
So proud of her. She did it all herself. But sometimes it's so rewarding to see that your child is listening and learning from you and is actually growing into the basic good person you always hoped they'd be if not even better. And I know she is so much a better person than me!
She wanted to write so much more but she was getting sleepy and she was going WAY off the mark of the assignment request. She instead just sat and talked to me about it. This morning she told me how she wishes she could have said more. I told her she can use a spare paper (which I know she won't). My hubby was in the kitchen cleaning up listening to us while she was doing her homework. I'd glance over and he would nod and smile often.
She's a good kid Sometimes I seriously wonder how LOL
