Making glass opaque?
I have a black wine buffet in my dining room that I love. The doors and sides are all glass. It's similar to this but not exactly:
similar to this
We are doing a mini kitchen renovation that involves knocking down a wall and opening it up so we can have an eat in kitchen. In the process we are actually losing 2 cabinets. I was thinking of utilizing this buffet for some of the displaced items but I wouldn't want them visible.
Originally I was going to get a hutch to replace the buffet but I really love the buffet (again it's not this thing lol), I don't see a hutch that I love, and the buffet is full of knick knacks that I could probably chuck/condense anyway.
Has anyone ever made glass opaque? I see some products online but don't want it to look like shit.
TIA!

Re: Making glass opaque?
There are vinyl films that you can buy and apply to the glass to make it opaque, even with a pattern. I think Home Depot might carry them, it's been a while since I looked into them. Good thing is that they are removable.

This. I got some for our front doors at Bed Bath and Beyond. It was in the curtains section.

I got some film from HD for my front doors. I have a thread on LIF somewhere describing the process. I also put some on DC's bathroom window, so they get plenty of light, but plenty of privacy, and no curtains.
It's very cheap, and very easy to install. Perfect for your situation.

Making glass opaque?
I got vinyl decals to look like etched glass for my full length sidelights on either side of my front door.
I ordered from this website and the product was seriously amazing.
The website is not very high-tech, and I actually had to call the owners to discuss my order, but I LOVE the product they sent me. You can customize the design you want & also tell them to make it more opaque so you don't see anything through it.
This is the website:

Re: Making glass opaque?
Thanks for all the input. I ended up putting enough decorative dishware in the cabinet that I don't need it but thanks to the below idea I am going to put it in my bathroom to replace the much hated window curtain that is in there!
