So our new cat is attacking our dog at times. Most of the yime she is great but she has been swatting at our Shih Tzu and chasing her at times. Our dog is scared of her :( Dont't know what to do.

Although she has scratching posts and mats she has been scratching our dining room furniture. I don't want to declaw her but DH is not happy and its becoming a problem :(

She was found as a stray and as a black cat the chances of being adopted were much lower so she tugged at my heart and of course our kids love her but DH is not warming up to her because of the damage she is doing.

were they given time in separate spaces with a closed door in between to get to know each other by smell?

Was she given a smaller space in which to adapt and adjust? Like a room with all of her needs (litter/food/ scratching posts). She can have time like that and then time out in the house with you monitoring her and maybe without the dog there.

Sometimes an slow adjustment process (especially with introducing two pets) can help.

Yes. Especially since she had surgery. Now it looks like she is playing with our dog instead of full blown attack as she's trying to rub against her. I guess baby steps.
