Sub Advice Needed
I recently finished student teaching and have a few loose ends to tie up before I'm able to graduate with my master's degree and be certified. In the meantime I would really like to sub a few days per week in order to get the experience. Can anyone suggest districts who don't require certification in order to sub? I'm in West Islip and prefer to stay on LI. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You may want to try private schools or charter schools. I don't think any public schools on Long Island are going to be taking uncertified subs with the oversaturated job market. In fact, the personnel contact from the district I worked in was calling me once a week when my initial was about to expire and I was anxiously waiting for my professional certification to come.

Private schools may be difficult too. I work in a private school, and we never use outside subs-it's all internal coverage

I believe uou can in my district, north babylon. There was a student teacher who graduated vollege but I know she is still taking some of her certification tests and she even got a leave replacement recently. And we are desperate for more subs. Call central office and they will give uou all the info

Thank you! I called today and will stop by on Tuesday to speak with them more. I've done observations at Deluca.

When I was a perm sub in Lindenhurst they constantly had people in there that weren't certified (but were in school or finishing up).

Lindenhurst requires certification. In fact, when mine was set to expire, I received a call a week to make sure my professional was going through until it finally showed up on TEACH.
