How much should a kitten play?

I'm going to start this out that I'm a bit paranoid because of a previous kitty I lost to FIP.

We got a new kitten in November. I'm wondering what's normal for the amount of play time. Since I work from home a lot at certain times of the year, I have seen a pattern in his playing. He is annoying at 5-6 AM with my other cat. He whizzes around the house around 10-11 AM. He sleeps most of the day. He whizzes around in the evening a little bit. At around midnight he play fights with the other cat and whizzes around.

He sure does sleep a lot, though. The last kitten (10 years ago, so I don't remember a lot of details) I had that made it through was a complete terror. This one is pretty good. I expected more. He's 6 months, so maybe it will get worse?

How much should a kitten play?

Adorable! I think what you describe sounds about right. Even as kittens, they really do sleep most of the day.

I think what you are saying is pretty normal- by the time my kitties were 6 months old they were already calming down and sleeping more.

OMG he's beautiful! But I don't think you need to worry. That sounds about right- it's not like he's completely inactive. Also, some cats are just more social than others. I know my parent's cat is pretty standoffish and has been since we got her as a kitten. And she's so damn healthy she's going to outlive us all.

Thanks for the reassurance! I just worry because of what happened to our last kitten. He was a complete nut today.

We got our kitten at 10 weeks old and she was a lunatic!!!

2 years later - and she still is nuts!!
