Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
What was your child's pre-k schedule (especially those that DON'T have UPK in their school district)?

This. DD did Pre K in her daycare She was there from 8 am to 6 pm 3 days a week because that was our schedule for daycare. I have no idea what the "learning" hours were.

Re: Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
Our pre-k was 8am-2:45pm 5 days a week. I had the option of 5 half days but did full day for all.

My son did Pre-K in his daycare but, all of the preschools in the area have programs that are about 3 hrs long.

Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
My son does 5 mornings a week. On 2 days he has an afternoon enrichment program where he stays there and eats lunch with the other kids and then does science or cooking for a couple hours. We did this to get him ready for full day K in the fall. It helps that he loves the program too!

Pretty much the same with my kids. They were at school 8:30-2:30, but class time was 8:45-2. They went 4 days a week.

DS goes full day, 9-2:30, 5 days a week. It is great for him to have that routine.

Re: Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
Pre-K was M-F 9am- 1 PM. He loved this schedule, by the time 1 pm rolled around he was ready to come home.
The year before (3's), was M-F 9-11:45 am.

Re: Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
My oldest is in PreK now - M-F 830-12 and its perfect! I was debating between 3 full days vs 5 half days and I'm happy with the decision we made. Although he hasn't had experience eating lunch at school, he's used to going every day and I feel like that's more important.

Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
I did the 3 full days with my boys and I really liked it. They are used to having lunch at school. The longer day. I am able to actually get something done while they are at school. But I also like our days off - I can get morning doctor's appointments, have time to do activities, or go to museums. It worked out well for us.

Re: Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
I vote for more school the better!
Now that my twin daughters are in K, let me share my experience so far. Last year for Pre K they went M-F til 1pm.
Every Monday a homework packet comes home and is due Friday. Every evening review words as flash cards. Including the spelling of those words. Every evening 2 packets of books. Every evening writing journal entries .
Kindergarden both the school and homework load is tremendous.
I just think the better prepared the child is before the better.

Re: Pre-K School Schedule-Poll
DD does mornings only 3 days a week.
Here's why: 1. She is the oldest in her class, our cut-off is Sept 1st and her bday is Sept 7th, because of this she knows most of the things they are teaching (writing leaders, sight words, shapes, etc.) so for her, it's a social thing. I couldn't justify paying for the full day because she isn't really learning anything new.
2. I work part-time and my sitter is with her two out of the three days of preschool, again can't justify paying for a full-day sitter and full day preschool.
3. Even though she's old, she still naps on occasion and needs it. Obviously, that has to go away before kindergarten but I'm fine with her napping now (especially because her brother naps at the same time and I'm home with them most days)
4. They don't do much in the afternoon after she leaves.. from 12:00-3:00 they eat lunch, go on the playground finish up lingering morning activities (like the rest of class doing their show and tell), do a craft, then review their day.
It was a $200 difference/month for me and the way I saw it, that's $1800 I'd much rather spend on a family vacation.
