Yard sprayed for mosquitos?

Has anyone had their yard sprayed for mosquitos and does it work? DH and I got eaten alive last summer being outside with the dog. We built a deck last year and would like to spend time outside enjoying it this year but trying to figure out ways to reduce the mosquito bites. We wore bug spray last year which didn't help much. Wondering if having the yard sprayed will help or if it is a waste of money?

We have a yard spray that we use before we're going to be outside. Citronella candles and torches help, too.

I'm in CT so can't rec anyone but last year we treated for mosquitoes and ticks. Whatever my exterminator put down was amazing lol. I def helped. He used a granular, little pebbles that you saw for a few days then seeped into the ground. Some companies use a spray. I only did it b/c I wanted to treat for ticks so I just did both.
In past years we used a spray hooked up to our house. We sprayed the house, plus the deck, and the lawn. I def helped but you have to do it often and more if it rains.

Just use this. If you pay someone it will be very similar to this and cost way more

Yard sprayed for mosquitos?

We could get our yard sprayed through lawn Doctor (they are coming to do the lawn anyway). I worry about anything that we put down as we have a dog, so the pellets/pebbles probably aren't a good idea for us.

My cousin has the liberty mosquito magnet and it's great. It's basically a machine that runs off CO2 or propane and attracts and kills mosquitoes.

I don't see how spraying anything would work for long. Why wouldn't they just fly back in from your neighbor's yard?

Those machines that attract them sound interesting. We debate on how to keep them away every year. We even have bats that fly around our yard nightly and still have a decent amount of mosquitoes.

the spray def works but you need to do it often. We stay inside with the kids until it's dry. We get relief for a week tops 2 if it's dry out

We use ecosmart brand yard spray pretty much everytime before we hang out outside in the evening.
It says it is safe for children and pets but I wipe down the table after we spray it just so we don't eat it.
It seems to work well.

Re: Yard sprayed for mosquitos?

I think the effectiveness with depend upon where you live...my inlaws can spray every day if they want, but they will always have mosquitoes because they live next to a nature preserve and about 1/2 mile from the bay. We live in a planned community that has no marshy land or anything like that and we rarely get mosquitoes...if we spray ourselves, we have nothing ever bother us. My inlaws have tried everything...yard guard spray they did themselves, non-toxic organic yard treatment, chemical yard treatment...the organic one worked the best, but it wasn't long lasting and it wasn't effective once the sun went down.

Bat Box

We have a bat box; although we were never sure if any lived in there.

DH just bought online Praying Mantis eggs for our yard. Chat Icon They will hatch in another month or two. They kill all insects; mosquitos, stink bugs; crickets, locusts. etc.

I'm a little afraid.........Chat Icon

Chat Icon I would freak the hell out every time I ran into one of those! You take your insect control VERY seriously. Lol

We use the Cutter one posted above. It works well for a little bit.

He got it at a class he went to. In order to keep his license to put fertilizer down, he needs to keep taking classes. They were samples, so it can not be found in stores.

We use this.

And an all natural bug spray. "Repel Lemon Eucalyptus". It's available as a six pack on Amazon. We keep the extras in our cars during the season.

We won't put anything down on our lawn. It's all carcinogenic. DH does our half acre himself.

Do you find this works well? Do you live in a high mosquito area? I'm thinking this might be a good alternative for us, since we don't use any chemicals on our lawn.

My dog played with and killed a bat last year in the yard :(

We couldn't scold him because it was his instinct.

But NOTHING is more disgusting than trying to pry to a dead bat out of your dogs mouth when said dog is SO damn proud of his accomplishment.

I cant even with him. I love him. But THIS was disgusting. Not to mention the little shit would NOT open his mouth...........

This year we are using Tru-Green. I was quoted $65.95 per application. They come and spray every 45 days starting end of April. I may have them come sooner, since it was a mild winter.

I was told it was safe for pets, children, etc after the application dries.
I would also wipe down any tables, furniture, toys, etc you have.
