FB people you may know
Very strange- lately the principal and asst principal from my daughters school, staff from my co-op and local pharmacist at CVS came up!
I am assuming it's linked from my contacts but how? I have the general # for CVS, my co-op and DDs school in my phone. I find it super bizarre.

I'm pretty sure that can mean that they're searching you or looking at your profile. I had a psycho stalking me under a fake profile (I hadn't seen, heard or spoken to this person in 15 years) and they were coming up in 'people you may know' for me, my husband and a few of my friends that this person knew I was friends with. It was obvious that this person must have been looking at all of our profiles. I know it was this person because they then started sending harassing messages but that's a whole other story. They had no 'friends' on their fake profile so I don't know how else it would have linked all of us.

FB people you may know
Facebook finds suggestions based on where you visit, who you call, your contacts, etc. My husband is a music teacher and the parents of a bunch of his students came up and the only thing he could think of is that it's because he has their numbers in his phone. I've also googled a bunch of stuff on my computer and then gone on Facebook on my phone and both advertisements and friend suggestions show up.

That makes more sense. My cleaning lady came up too. So did an old real estate broker and my divorce mediator.

Friends of friends, check in in common, tagged placed in common like a school, companies worked at, its generated by all kinds of commonalities.

I agree that would be weird that all of those people would just happen to be looking you up but in my experience I'm just about positive that it was the case with that one person. Just sharing my experience. I really don't know how it works and I think there must be different reasons why they 'suggest' people to you.

Not true. They are people who have mutual friends.
There are definitely many people suggested to me all the time that I have zero mutual friends with and I have no idea who they are.

Something must have changed with fb same thing happened to me....all of a sudden all the people I may know are work people, I'm sure they are not all suddenly looking at my profile!

Have you ever clicked on their page and see if they have anyone as friends that might be friends with your friends?

I think it looks for anyone on your phone or have ever emailed too... On my DH's people you may know list, a realtor who took us to look at a house when we were house hunting years ago came up. Also a recruiter who emailed me about my resume when I was job hunting right out of college came up on my list years later as well.

Yes, that is how I know we have no friends in common.

I think if you have the same likes/check ins, even if you don't have any mutual friends - these people who are suggested will pop up.
I'm sure there's so many weird Facebook alogorythims (sp)
