Starting to worry

So I'm in month 3 of TTC, and I'm starting to worry that something is wrong. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but that's just how I am. I've been using the CBE fertility monitor and OPKs.

Anyway, my doctor knows how I am, and said if I wasn't pregnant after 3 months of trying, he would have DH go for a SA and run some very preliminary tests to ease my mind...

So I was telling this to my mom and she said: "People who think about getting pregnant are the ones that don't -- you are thinking about it too much. Stop thinking about it and it will happen." Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

She is usually very supportive about everything in my life and gives wonderful advice, so I was SHOCKED at this. I just quickly got off the phone and CRIED!

Re: Starting to worry

I would not worry after only 3 months either. You only have less then a 25% chance of getting PG each month on the PERFECT day timing wise.

Worrying can cause stress which can affect ovulation.

How old are you? Do you get normal periods...( like every 28-31 days?)

Re: Starting to worry

I know what you are talking about.
I feel the same way. I had a M/c in a week is going to be 3 months. Two months for me trying and nothing.
My doctor said not to go to her till a year cause it can take up to a year to get preggo and after that year they will do some tests.
Please don't take it the wront way.But you mom is not trying to hurt you or anything like that. It is kind of true you worry about it to much and it does not happen that is what i'm doing to.
I'm with ya crying casue nothing yet i want to be preggo and be able to have a baby. But try not to think about it and let you mind ease off of it and it will happen. Trust me cause that is what happened to me the first time i got preggo. But Here are some Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for you and some Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If you need anything just fm

I agree with this post 100%. I think we all worry and I think it is normal. And especially when you hear of so many unplanned pregnancies, it makes you think "well if we are monitoring my cycle with temps and charting and BD every other day ending in y, it should be an exact science right?" WRONG. My doc told us that there was a 10% chance of getting pregnant each cycle and even less as you get older. I think he told me that based on my age now. I am sure it varies according to that and other factors too.

I would not fault your mother for expressing herself that way. My mother is also very blase when she spoke of her own fertility. They didnt have monitors then. They didnt have so many things to worry about it. Perhaps what we perceive as insensitivity is a generational thing. I am sure she is trying to protect you.

Re: Starting to worry

My doctor said it was normal to take up to a year to conceive.

I would try to stop stressing about it. i know that's easier said than done. Start worrying when you know you have a problem. Have fun with it now.

Re: Starting to worry

I love the "don't worry about it" and "don't stress about it" statements. Chat Icon I also love when people tell you that it took them "one time" and that you must not be "doigng it right". PLEASE!! It's just as bad as the "so when are you having a baby" question. People talk without really thinking about how they would feel if they were in your shoes.

I think it's perfectly normal and natural to worry about it when you are actively trying. Of course you shouldn't let it CONSUME your every single thought. If that's what is happening then maybe you need to speak with a professional about your feelings.

Anyway, for me, my doctor wants to see me at the 6 month mark if we don't get PG by then. Some doctors wait a full year. If yours wants to see if after 3 month and you are okay with that, then go right ahead.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Starting to worry

Thanks, ladies. I just turned 31... very regular periods my whole life (28 days -- can set the calendar by it).

I guess it's hard because everyone around me (friends, SILs, etc.) got preggo the first month!

Re: Starting to worry

I am so sorry about the comment of "just relax and it will happen". That always hurts.

As other women have stated, you really do have such a low percentage each month of acheiving pg that doctors do suggest trying for a year.

Re: Starting to worry

I'm sorry to hear about your worries and your mother's reaction. Try to think about all of the women on these boards who -- after lots of planning and WORRYING and trying -- did get PG. Definitely proof that "thinking about getting pregnant" can be just as successful as not thinking about it, right? Chat Icon

Re: Starting to worry

My girlfriedn was trying for 15 months, they went to the doctor, had all the tests and nothign was wrong. Then all of the sudden out of nowhere she became PG. She had her gorgeous son and 3 months later became PG with her daughter "by accident." So I truly do think there is some truth to the whole, "if you don't think about it..."

Of course, I think about it all the time, so I guess I really don't practice what I preach. Chat Icon Chat Icon
