Question re: what to do about preschool parking lot safety .
Hi ladies , I'm not going to mention what school it is or what town but . My children have gone to the same preschool for 3 years now . The school is in an old elemtery school and there is a large parking lot with plenty of parking for parents/staff .
So here's the problem . There is a no parking fire zone the entire length of the front of the building and for years parent drive through parking cones and park in the fire zone while unloading and loading up their children .
This is extremely dangerous for a number of reasons , I've mentioned it to the director numerous times , they've sent out letters to the parents and nothing has changed . Can I contact the fire department or board of Ed to try to get this addressed . I'm just nervous it's going to take a kid being hit while running to the door to get something done . Any advice ?

Question re: what to do about preschool parking lot safety .
My DS's daycare is the same way. The school can only do so much as they can't make the parents not part there. All the letters in the world or warnings won't stop people. and honestly the police might come once or twice but they do not have the man power to police the situation.
I have set rules in place for my DS. He is not allowed to run out into the lot or run ahead of me into school. I started this years ago so even now at 4 he will not run ahead because its just his norm.

Re: Question re: what to do about preschool parking lot safety .
I have the same rules they keep their hands on the car until I can grab each Child by the hand and walk them in . It's just infuriating that these parents think they're better than everyone else that they can park there and drive through dangerously . I used to walk from the parking lot lugging my 20 lb baby and all my older child's thing , why can't everyone else . . I'm nervous for the safety of the kids that don't listen and just run , I see it every day

Call the local police precinct and alert them to the issue. Maybe if they can dispatch an officer just once to start banging out a ticket or 2, these assholess will stop.

That's a great idea . I feel bad because some of the people are friends of mine but it has to stop before someone gets hurt or killed . Everyone needs to get to work and parking in front in the parking zone will not get anyone anywhere quicker .

It's not just your school - we have a huge lot across the street (the school and lot are on the corner opposite each other).
They close down the street between the school and lot from 8-830. Parents are suppose to drive to the back entrance of the lot on the block that runs parallel to the school and lot and park in there and drop off their kids.
No amount of police presence stops those who think they are entitled to not follow the rules and stop in the middle of the road directly in front of the barricades to drop their kids off there.
This causes back ups coming from both directions for the other parents and towns people just trying to drive by to go somewhere else.
I think the police should be there to give out tickets not just tell them to move. Telling them move only solves it that morning. Having them show up randomly and give tickets to anyone who stops in front of the barricades may finally get through their stuck up heads.

Yep, friends or not they are breaking the law and putting children in danger. As parents themselves you'd think they would be a little more cognizant of the safety of children

I called the school and told them to do something or I'd be calling the police and they said they would call for me , so we'll see
