I met with Ferrando and loved him but ...

He wants a 50% deposit before starting my patio. That's about $2500 and he can't start until June. DH is nervous about this but I know he gets great reviews on here. Thoughts?

ETA I misunderstood him. The first half is due on the first day of work. My mistake. Thanks for all the feedback!

i didn't use him, but i wouldn't lay out that kind of money 3 months ahead of time. I would tell him that I'd give him the first 50% when he is ready to buy the pavers for the job

50% up front seems like a lot
I could see doing a 5% deposit to obtain his services and then when the construction starts working out an appropriate payment plan according to the time line.

We used him and this is what we did. Honestly, he books up so quickly so if you want to lock in the June date if do it. Otherwise you may be looking at Fall. We booked in May and got extremely lucky that he was able to fit us in in late in July due to a last minute cancellation. We would've been in October.

Id just put it on a credit card so you're protected against any issues. He's great though, I can't foresee any arising on his end. He runs a tight operation.

I just looked at our contract from last year. We had 50% due on first day of job and 50% due upon completion. He is fabulous and reputable. I'd use him. And yes, he books up far in advance!

ETA: You could also offer him a good faith deposit to hold the date - maybe $500? And then the balance of the 50% on the first day of work. Worth a shot. He's pretty reasonable.

same with me. i put 50% on the first day and the rest when he finished. but he is extremely reliable. like OP said...put it on your credit card so you can dispute it later if you have to.

This. We have him booked for the end of the month. He didn't ask for any money when we signed with him a few weeks ago. Only asked for 50% on day 1 which is likely because he buys the products on day 1 of the job.

Same! We booked him last May and the job was scheduled for end of July. We didn't pay anything until Day 1.

He's at my house right now and we just paid our first 50% on day 2 of the job because we weren't here on day 1. Maybe you misunderstood him or he didn't explain it right? Definitely double check because from what I can see, he's totally worth it. I'm loving the work that's been done so far!
