My 2.5 yo DD just got an autism diagnosis. She is getting ABA and speech at home but I have started the process for CPSE. I have the meeting on June 8th. I would really like a full day program for her for Sept. She is high functioning so I think she would do well in a 12. What schools do you like? You can PM me if you're more comfortable. We live in Wantagh. I believe Little Village is already full.

I dont have any personal experience but ive heard Alternatives is pretty good. Also, Brookville Center has a few locations and i personally know someone who has had a positive experience there. In both cases, their children had high functioning autism.

I may be completely wrong, but I thought that schools will not consider enrolling your child until the district gives approval. Then the district will send out packets to school and you follow up for tours, etc. Little village wouldn't even schedule a tour until they received the packet.
If you are looking for schools so you can discuss them at your meeting...where are you located? My guess is that you want a go school as close to home as possible to elimate a long bus ride.

Yes you are right!! But I want to have an idea of where I would like packets sent. I feel like it's already so late to find a spot for September so I want to be ready to tour schools as soon as they send the packets. I also want to see which schools people like or don't like before the meeting.

My son is very high functioning autism. He has been at BCW for 2 years in a 10:1:2 and we are very happy. Just had our first CSE and he is going into integrated class for K next year and we feel he is very prepared.

Re: Schools
The district will approve the size class but my son had a late birthday, so by the time we were looking for a full day program (June), most programs were full. I was able to go tour schools by myself before the CPSE meeting, which I found helpful because then I had an idea of what was still available at which school for the upcoming school year. Since our meeting was so late, our CPSE chair sent packets to placements that had a larger class size than his therapists at the time believed he could handle. It was probably because they had openings, but I was not going to agree to a 15 when he was approved for an 8.
I think it will be easier to get a spot in a 12 than in a 6 or an 8, for example. Is she in an EI class now? If so, talk to her current teacher and therapists to see what they think about class size.
