Growing potatoes

Has anyone done this? I have watched a few videos on this and I'm wondering if anyone has actually done this.

Re: Growing potatoes

I did last year. It was actually pretty easy. The potatoes were really good. We didn't hill them last year so we didn't get a ton, but I plan on it this year.

Re: Growing potatoes

Did you just use potatoes from the supermarket? Or did you get seed potatoes like videos are suggesting?

Re: Growing potatoes

I would recommend using seed potatoes. Many potatoes sold at supermarkets have an herbicide on them specifically to prevent sprouting. I have planted potatoes that I had purchased from a farmers market and did fine with that. Good luck!

We did just use regular potatoes from the supermarket, but we planted them early. We also had them in the pantry for a while. We used white potatoes. They are more resistant to bugs and things.

We would get the seed sets and plant them in hills as others said, but not in the garden with the other vegetables. My dad showed us how to make hills and we always did it with him.
I'm not sure about your climate there but I kind of remember planting them in the fall? Chat Icon not sure

Re: Growing potatoes

Thanks! I'm going to look around for seed potatoes, and if I can't find them, I'll just use supermarket potatoes. I'm going to plant them this week and leave them in a big container on my balcony.
