Twice Exceptional Learners on LI...Who Are They?
Twice Exceptional kids are bright, curious, interesting, yet they do not thrive in a traditional school setting. They are often challenged with ADHD that cannot be managed in a typical school. They have sensory processing, executive functioning and social cognition challenges. They may be high-functioning autistic or Aspergers' kids. And they might also be dyslexic/dysgraphic.
If this sounds like a child you know, there is now a place on Long Island, the first and only private school that specializes in "2e" education. The LONG ISLAND WHOLE CHILD ACADEMY for Twice Exceptional Learners opens its doors on July 5 with an intensive Environmental Investigation summer program (July 5-9; July 12-16; August 15-19) AND, its full, day school program that begins on September 14th, 2016. Visit our website at www.liwholechild.org or call Dr. Ellen Richer at 347-668-3676.

Twice Exceptional Learners on LI...Who Are They?
Hello, I send a few messages and was suppose to get an email through the information you posted on my SEPTA site and haven't received an answer, but can you let me know the profile of the students you are looking for: Do you take moderately to mild behavior issues, anxiety issues and is there specific testing you use for admissions? Also, is the school working with school districts for placement or is this fully parent paid? Thanks.

I was interested to know what type of financial aid is available as while my son would be a perfect fit we would never be able to afford even half the cost of tuition.

I'd be very surprised if they had much financial aide at all since it is brand new. Yes $90,000 a year is I think probably out of everyone's budget lol. I don't know how much interest they are going to get if they can not answer any information requests. This is a much needed resource for many families and I hope it pans out.

In case anyone needs, I have a wonderful therapist who works with 2e kids. She provides one-on-one counseling, and she also runs several social peer groups as well as parent support groups. Here is her website: Melissa Sornik

I'm not sure, but you could certainly reach out and ask her. She is very approachable and down-to-earth.
