Thoughts?

I have volunteered at my kids camp for the week so I don't pay for it. My kids love having me there and I'm able to work it out at work, so there is no down side. My sister disagrees. She says why drop them off somewhere just so you can stay. I get it but if I'm saving money then it's win/win. I'm saving even more by not running to target, the mall, etc during those 3 hours.

Certain scenarios yes and others no. I know there's a few ladies who drive a camp bus in exchange for free tuition. I think that's awesome. However, if I had to work at camp all day I would not do it for the same exchange.

I agree with wonderlady. I would not do it if I was hanging in my kids class.

I can understand missing the time to run errands and do chores and whatnot while the kids are otherwise being cared for. But, if I felt a program was enriching for my kids, I'd absolutely work there in exchange for the experience. I send my DD to a cooperative preschool though, so my opinion may be a bit biased. The cost is lower than a typical drop off program, I like knowing what's going on in the school as somewhat of an "insider",my DD also is thrilled when it's my turn to be there, and although it does cut into some of my "free" time, I do enjoy helping out.

If you like the camp for your kids' experiences (versus for free time for yourself)... Do it!

My husband works at a camp for the summer so that our son can go. He is a teacher during the year and in the summer works at a super nice camp where we could never afford to send our son without the huge discount. My husband has fun working there (and makes some money besides the discount) and my son has an amazing experience that we couldn't give him otherwise. Win - Win!

I would totally do it. Your kids are with kids their age and having a ball.

If you were home with them you would be spending money trying to keep them entertained a lot of the time.

I did this. I drove a mini bus all summer for a camp so my son can go full time for free. I started at 7:30 am and was done by 9:30 am and then back at it at 3:30-\pm until 5pm. It wasn't horrible but I didn't love it, but my son had a wonderful experience that I would otherwise not have been able to afford.

Go for it! I'd do it if I could!

If you can work it out & your dc loves the camp, why not?
