Anatomy scan

So we have our anatomy scan this Friday. What should we expect? Do we get results there or is there a blood test we need to hear back on?

Thanks

Re: Anatomy scan

It's a very detailed sonogram. Mine took like an hour, plus a discussion with the MFM where they go over the results. They examine the baby's anatomy in depth, measuring all the body parts, and look for any physical concerns or abnormalities. They look at the cardiac structure and activity, brain structure, the cord, internal organs, etc.

I was told with my second DS that he had extra fluid in his kidneys based on this sonogram, and that's a soft sign for Down's (he is fine).

I don't think there's a blood test that goes with this sonogram.

This exactly. Baby moved around so much we were there for about an hour and a half. There was no blood test and the sonogram was not done in my regular OBs office, so we did t go over the test results in depth right after. A doctor from the sonogram office did come in and say everything looked good, but I had a follow up the next day at my regular OBs office. You can also most likely find out the gender if you don't already know!

ETA: this was a really cool sonogram- you get to see everything! Baby's feet, face, spine, and we got to see her move a ton. We actually watched her roll over and away from the wand a few times- I don't think she wanted to be disturbed. Lol! Good luck and enjoy!

I have mine on Thursday! I would've found out the gender then too but my friend is a sono tech and the doctor she works for let her scan me two weeks ago during her lunch break.

No blood, just a detailed sonogram. It's a lot of fun to watch. I had to go back twice last year because my DS refused to turn his head and they could not get a look at his little face. I actually enjoyed going back because I did not have another sonogram until 30 weeks (I think).

The last time we had a sono the baby refused to move. I'm hoping it's a little more cooperative this time. Where they able to still tell you the sex the first time you went for your anatomy? This will be the last one for me until 32 weeks I believe. My mom was hoping to do a gender reveal this weekend with our family.

Yup, they had no problem telling gender. They just couldn't get a look at his face. I hear drinking juice before makes the baby a little more active.
