are these contractions I'm feeling?
For the last 3 days, I've been getting sharp shooting pains in my stomach, where it almost feels like pulling. My stomach gets hard as a rock for about 5 mins and then gets a little softer for a little bit. This morning, I felt them on and off for about an hour. Can these be contractions? I've been feeling some braxton hicks for weeks now, but these feel a little more intense than that

That is how mine started. Like that, and very irregular. All over the place. This was on a Monday. I had my DD late Tuesday afternoon.

Re: are these contractions I'm feeling?
I mean it's definitely a contraction, but whether it's braxton hicks or early labor - who knows?! If you're within 2 weeks of your due date, there may very well be more going on. If you're a little further out, could be the baby getting into position. The 5 minute length is an exceptionally long time for a contraction though, so my complete guess would be the baby moving positions.

I felt like this when the baby turned head down. I couldn't even sit for two days straight- I was at work practically reclined at my desk I was so sore. Then it stopped. This was about 35 weeks.

Sounds a bit like BH to me but they shouldn't be painful. Depending how far along you are I would mention it to your doctor. Also - try drinking water and putting your feet up for a bit if it happens again.

yeah my mom said the same thing about the water.. she said if they stop after i drink alot of water, then they're braxton hicks. The baby has been head down, and pretty low, for 4 weeks now (she got in position very early and stayed put). Maybe she will be making an early appearance!

So they ended up being regular contractions by sometime on Tuesday? I have a fear that I won't know I'm in labor lol

THIS. Even if you don't have a long active labor...you will know the difference. If you go to the hospital and you are having regular contractions that aren't horribly painful they may say you are in labor at that time... It may be labor but not true active labor. That you will feel :)

Yeah, you'll definitely know if you are in labor. I wouldn't worry about that. As others have said, it can't hurt to check in with your dr, especially since you still have a few weeks to go.

It's possible, you won't know. I had consistent relatively pain free contractions. I called the doctor and when they checked me I was like 5 cm and 85% effaced with contractions 3-4 minutes apart. I had NO pain til they broke my water about 1-2 hours later. I was like 8-9 cm dilated and 100% effaced at that point.

You will know. I had contractions/by for weeks/months. They always hurt. I wasn't feeling right and went to the hospital to get checked. They kept me and I delivered DS 2 weeks early (just 7 weeks ago). With dd2 I also had contractions every night for months but knew the night I was in labor. It was just a little different. You just feel different. Call the hospital if you are not sure. They will talk to you and tell to come or not.

Yes. They became more regular, and much more intense. I went to bed Monday night and was woken up at 2 am because i was so uncomfortable. I went out to the couch and tried to get comfy there and started timing them. By 6 am they were quite intense (like took my breath away and I was shaking a bit) and closer together so I called the doctor's service and they said to come to the hospital to get checked as my Dr was there. I got to the hospital around 8 am and was checked in, etc and by the time he came to check me at 830 or so I was 4-5 cm and ready to get admitted and started.
She was born around 4 pm

are these contractions I'm feeling?
9 days before I had DS I was at my sister in laws house and felt like I had terrible gas pains which lasted for about 1 full day (I had no idea they were contractions though- first pregnancy I was clueless). When I told the DR she confirmed they were contractions. Then I had nothing until my water broke 9 days later.

My sister had pains like this. They lasted several minutes at a time and her belly would be really hard. She went to get checked out and they thought she was dehydrated. It got better after iv fluids. Never hurts to call the doctor if you're not sure what's going on.
