i learned some interesting things...
I've been seeing a naturopathic dr since 2014 when i was diagnosed as having MRSA (staph infection). It went mis diagnosed for months. I get recurring blisters that look like acne but they swell and become so painful. they are also isolated to the groin/butt/thigh area. I was on high doses of antibiotics for months. I got tired of it and went to see a holistic dr. the interesting thing about the blisters is that it was always right before AF would show up.
Holistic dr. had it under control in 2 cycles.
During this time I went down the road of IVF treatment and tests. on paper i was an excellent candidate for a 36 yr old (now 37). but I didnt respond well to the meds and my eggs were shit. My dr was surprised at the results based on all my tests.
So I started seeing the holistic dr again b/c after coming off all this crap from IVF my cycles were all over the place and my hormones were a mess.
I had blood work done which my family dr. did and told me my labs were normal. I sent those results to the holistic dr. and she tells me I have 2 things wrong.
1) I have very low VIT D. Like a normal range is 60-80 but mine was a 29. Most adults are deficient in VIT D anyway, but thats crazy Low.
2) My cholesterol is very low. all the #'s combined was a 109. Normal range I think starts at 125. Well why is that bad. B/c your body uses cholesterol to make all your sex hormones..progresterone and estrogen. It also plays a role in your making VIT D.
Back in 2014 after routine blood work my family dr said my cholesterol was low. Like impressive #'s, he gave me a high 5 in that he never seen #'s soo good. But in reality for a while my body has been deficient in making necessary things.
I think after I had DS something went wonky b/c low cholesterol was never an issue or something that stood out in any of my tests prior.
So maybe all this time I haven't been making enough progesterone and /or estrogen to support healthy eggs. All my tests show I had healthy ovaries, good tubes, uterus, etc. When I had the chemical after the first IVF, my progesterone was very low. During that first cycle, 3 days after stims my estrogen DROPPED; my follicle count dropped. and they had to max me out on the follistim dosage to get it to rise.
Something so simple none of the fertility tests looked for.
and the skin condition I found out is something called Hidradentitis superativa. which is an immune disorder ( I also have psoriaris which is auto immune) and prevalent in women mostly. and mostly occurs befoe the monthly cycle due to a hormonal imbalance. MRsA/Staph becomes the secondary infection when the boils get big and burst. (Gross I know).
SO in my long winded post, I urge everyone to seek other forms of treatment. Naturopaths see things differently from regular doctors. There are other alternatives. I've learned a lot these past few weeks. and I dont mean to not see fertility doctors. I just mean seeking alternative forms in conjunction with whatever you are doing with IVF specialists, or if you are starting out on the road to trying to get pregnant to look at things from all angles.
I am also going to have food allergy testing done b/c the holistic dr. said the majority of time with immune related disorders there is a food allergy like gluten tied to it.

:
I believe much of what you have learned.
However, I just question this above statement. I was told 30 and above is normal. Mine is always very very low (12 or 19). I finally got it up to 29 by taking 4400 units a day of D3. They said that was ok and obviously much better than 12 or 19, since I was unwilling to take more than 4400 daily. I just got a BFP.
Not sure if they are quoting you the same scale mine was measured on but I was told 30 and up is normal.

Do you think you'll try doing another cycle if you get all your numbers worked out or have you completely shut the door?

I'm glad you're getting answers. I would double check this one with the Vit D.

Re: i learned some interesting things...
About 3 years ago, my cholesterol was extremely low too. About a 113. He also looks at Bilirubin levels as well.
My naturopath at the time had me cut out certain things in my diet while adding in a lot more. One thing he had me cut out was histamine foods; like chicken and strawberries for example; but adding in more pork (which Im not a fan of) and important nuts like cashews.
My cholesterol has been way above 113 since; and nothing. With my most recent IVF cycle; I made sure to check my levels across the board even for tests most doctors don't check for; and my numbers were beyond perfect. It still failed.
But hopefully; it will work for some. <<sigh>>

I have no more benefits to try IVF so for that route im done. I've come to terms with that.
the VIT d, I dont know..the naturopath may consider levels different than a regular dr.
In any case, the hormones are causing other problems and Im going to do food allergy testing to see if there is something there too.
i am on other things to bring up my cholesterol (something called biotone. they are phytosterols and essential fatty acids).
just fascinating to me how all this works

It truly is amazing how narrow minded most infertility specialists are. Even with wonderful reproductive systems for both male & female they still stress those parts and don't explore other options or conditions of the body that could be causing infertility.
