how to continue dilating?
I am 1-2cms and 80% effaced. I know some people stay like this for weeks, but is there any way I can keep the momentum going? lol... I walked about a mile and a half this morning and ate alot of pineapple, but does any of it really made a difference?

Re: how to continue dilating?
It didn't for me. I walked literally a 5k every day for a week and a half. I ate spicy foods, pineapple, had sex, nothing. I had to be induced with pitocin and a foley catheter. The foley catheter REALLY got things moving. I jumped like 3/4 CM in an hour. And things moved really quickly from there. My labor was 6 hours from when I started my pitocin to when she was born.
You're a good candidate for induction, if it comes to that- I was 100% effaced and 2 CM for like 3 weeks. I was eventually induced for low fluid at 40w3d. My OB said the fact that I was so effaced really helped move things along. Good luck!

how to continue dilating?
My friend stayed that way for over a week and had to be induced she tried everything. Some of the old wives tales on how to induce labor I think are a total fluke lol. My sister tried so much with her second and nothing helped, she said she will never eat pineapple again. I hope for you it happens quickly.

Re: how to continue dilating?
I stayed like that for over a week with my DS and ended up having to be induced. But for sh!ts, I would try sex often and also rotating your hips on a yoga ball for an hour or two. The yoga ball helped moved DS down further into my birth canal, which helped greatly when I was induced.

Are you over 39 weeks? Your baby will come when they are ready. If you aren't over 39 weeks why would you want your baby to come out premature?

Prostaglandins can help soften the cervix--so sex can help but your partner has to finish--prostaglandins are found in seman.

I am full term, and my dr. gave me the green light to "naturally induce"

Re: how to continue dilating?
I know this is all probably a coincidence, but at my 39 week appointment I was 1-2 cm and 90% effaced and I just felt SO DONE AND GROSS. I walked, got a prenatal massage with emphasis on pressure points, bounced on a medicine ball, had sex, and did some jumping jacks over the next couple days. My water broke on its own at home, and I had a 12 hour labor and vaginal delivery....at 39 weeks 3 days.

Ask your doctor to strip your membranes (Google for more info). I had it done when I was 5 days past my due date and went into labor a few hours later. Not the most comfortable thing to have done but it definitely moved things along.

I'm sorry I thought I read in another thread that you were 37 weeks in another thread. Honestly the baby will come when they are ready. Enjoy the time you have left being pregnant.

Castor oil I hear can do the trick but I too believe the baby comes when the baby's ready.

My water broke at 37 weeks with my second baby. He was ok, but I don't see what the rush is? To me, 40 weeks is the goal.

Re: how to continue dilating?
I thought 37 weeks was full term until I went to the doctor today and was told that isn't the case anymore. 39 weeks is now considered full term.
Since this is #3 for me, the doctor told me that she might help things along at 39 weeks if I want but not any sooner.

No judgment at all but I wouldn't rush it at 37w. I know how exhausting pg can be so I get it. But as long as baby and mom are in good healthy condition, typically the longer they bake to their due date the better. I don't know if you intend to BF, but typically they say babies born closer to EDD have more success. In some countries 41 weeks is EDD not 40. But obviously, people have happy healthy babies at less than 37w. Just trying to give you some positives to help get you through.

No advice, just wanted to say hang in there. These last few weeks suck! I'm right there with you. I wake up every morning saying the number of days left in my head.

In order for pineapple to effect naturally going in to labor, you'd have to eat the CORE of a pineapple. It's not worth it because it won't work. If it does work, it's pure coincidence. The baby will come when it's ready. Please just be happy it's still in there growing and getting healthier. Get your rest for the next few weeks while you can because once it's out there's no turning back!

I didnt realize you were only 37 weeks. Technically, "full term" is 39 weeks now. IMO trying to induce naturally at this point isn't necessary. I'm surprised she gave you the go-ahead to be honest. Most doctors would try to encourage you to 39 or 40 weeks unless there is some medical reason for you to go early. I would let that baby cook as long as possible

I have to agree with what many of the others said about not pushing it. I had one baby 2 weeks late and one a month early. As torturous as the wait seemed, between the two I'd pick late any day.

Lol. Yep. I was praying I'd be LATE. I was in no way ready for her even that last week. Thankfully I went right on time, not early. Trust me, once the baby is out, you'll never sleep again. You want it to stay in as LONG as possible.

I mean this in the nicest way possible... but you need to stop. Stop, and let your baby keep cooking. Even though maybe your doctor considers you "full term" at 37 weeks, the last few weeks are vital for lung development. Every day counts. You want your baby to be the healthiest and strongest it can possibly be. And personally, I don't think a doctor should or would be giving you the go-ahead to try things to induce labor. It will happen when it's time, and if it doesn't happen, you'll be induced. It will happen one way or another.

I am praying to make it to 37 weeks with my twins, my OB is hoping to even push me out to 38 weeks. I was told Wednesday I will be getting a steroid shot at 28 weeks regardless because even if my babies come at 37 weeks, the lungs need more time for development past the 37 week mark. Keep your baby in there as long as you and is of coarse medically safe. I am terrified of my babies coming at 37 weeks. I could see if you were late trying things to get labor going, but your still 3 weeks away, your baby has a lot of growing to do in those 3 weeks!

how to continue dilating?
thanks for the advice everyone- my dr really did give me the go ahead to do some things at home, like walking and whatnot, but i definitely understand the other points some of you are making about not rushing things.. The baby started progressing on her own, and I was just curious as to how to keep it going, rather than stalling it. I think if I was 0 dilated and 0% effaced, it would be a different story. Either way, i'll try to just relax and let it happen when she's ready even though I'm soooo ready for her to be here :)
