Am I being unreasonable?

Yesterday I had my first ultrasound with the OB after being released from the RE. My final ultrasound with the RE was at 7 weeks and yesterday my ultrasound was 8 weeks 6 days with the OB. My final ultrasound with the RE, obviously the twins were smaller, my last ultrasound you can see both babies clearly when they are still in their slug looking phase lol. So my ultrasound yesterday, A looks good, very "baby like" and is really starting to take shape, B on the other hand, she had a hard time with B, getting a picture and had to try a few times to measure the heart beat, when I asked she said it was fine. Now, I hated the ultrasound tech, even the receptionist told me on my way out she's a little rough and she was, I was in pain during the ultrasound and all around uncomfortable. She wouldn't give me pictures and told DH to take them on his phone. She also wouldn't let us hear the heart beats, she just measured them. All of those things royally ticked me off but it could be I'm just hormonal. Would it be wrong of me to call back and ask if I can have the ultrasound redone for baby B that I'm concerned? Even when just showing my mom and a few family members, they all asked, what's wrong with B. All other things aside, things with B just aren't sitting well with me. A looks like a baby, B just looks like a bunch of broken up tissue in a sac. The tech told me that both heart beats are now measuring 175 and that they both measured 8 weeks 6 days yesterday. I mean if there was something wrong would she have caught it? I'm just not comfortable with how things left off with B and I'm quite upset. I would even pay completely out of pocket just for them to redo the ultrasound. Am I wrong in asking for this? The next appointment is 7/26 for the NT scans. I haven't even met the OB yet which is another issue with me, only the NP (I am new to the practice). I don't know if that's typical? Maybe I'm just spoiled from the RE? The nurse practitioner always did our ultrasounds and went slow and explained everything. This, I feel completely in the dark.

DH wasn't happy with the ultrasound tech either and even went as far as asking if I wanted to change practices. I don't want to bounce around during my pregnancy but I also don't want to spend my time panicking between ultrasounds

Update: Dr. Erhart called yesterday reviewed the ultrasound report and images. Let me know that the heart beat and measurement of the baby is good but can understand why I am concerned with B with the way B looks but assured me it's the position of B. I am going back Tuesday for a rescan of B which I'm thrilled about. Also the images from the ultrasound were attached to the ultrasound report so he said he would have someone copy on photo paper for us to have which I'm thrilled about. When I got back on the phone with the receptionist she had mentioned to me that the ultrasound tech is rough around the edges at times and doesn't always leave a good impression with people, which is unfortunate but it seems like other have had concerns at times as well. I'm glad I spoke with the Doctor and more than pleased that I can have another look at baby B and get some pictures from the last scan. This was my first interaction with Dr. Erhart and he was very very nice about it

I dont think you are being unreasonable at all.

I would call and ask for another appointment with a different sono tech or at the very least, a sit down with your doctor to review the pictures and if s/he feels it necessary, they can schedule another sono.

Now the NP is the same person who did the ultrasound? If not, what did the NP say? I'd be very annoyed that you weren't given any information. We were lucky all of our ultrasounds were so kind and never hesitated to answer any of our questions.

I would seriously consider switching doctors- better now than further along in your pregnancy. Good luck!

I agree with Kedra! Id ask to speak with the dr. Tell him what you told us. The tech was not informative or cooperative. You feel uneasy about the outcome of baby b's sono. Im sure everything is fine. Im sorry you had a crappy experienceChat Icon

You are not being unreasonable at all. These are your babies and if you feel like something is not right and want another look then they should do it. I would have felt the same way when I was pregnant with my twins. I will tell you at first baby B always looked different and less "baby like" then baby A. At the NT scan that changed and baby B looked like baby A did. Maybe at this point baby B is just harder to get a clear picture of?

Honestly if this is how you are being treated from the get go with a new office I would might consider leaving. With a new office I would expect to see the Doctor the first visit, especially with twins. Twins is a whole other kind of pregnancy. I would also think the sono tech could give you pictures and let you listen to the heart beat. What if you never saw an RE and this was your first appointment ever? She wouldn't let you hear anything? I have never once seen an NP during either pregnancy. Which office do you go to?

Am I being unreasonable?

The original NP that always did the Sonos was from the RE office. This OB office was the sono tech doing the scan and then I saw the OB office NP, not the OB, I was told I wouldn't see him until 12 weeks.
Thanks for the advice and making me feel like I'm not crazy. the doctor came highly recommended so I was expecting I think a completely different appointment. I am going to call the office and ask them to redo the scan for baby B- i was up all night over this and thought I was just going nuts. If they refuse to redo the scan I am going to switch hands down. Unfortunately, I think the office only has 1 tech I'm not too sure. And the more I think about it, the less comfortable I am that I didn't hear either heart beat and she just measured them. I will call on my lunch- hopefully they don't think I'm crazy! Thanks everyone!!!

Thank you for the advice on the twins!!!! I know she had a difficult time with B in general and it was painful to get a picture, I'm just so concerned- I feel like they are so different that B doesn't even look like a baby. I am going to Dr. Erhart on 112 in port Jeff station- close to home. There was many recommendations for him on here and my mom works at st. Charles and he was the number 1 Doctor recommended by their maternity department so I had little hesitation switching since my old OB is in garden city and is just too far to be going frequently. I'm trying not to be needy or crazy, maybe I'm just spoiled by the RE that the attention was more personalized? I'm not sure. I've never been pregnant and only saw my OB once a year for my annual so I'm not sure if my expectations and reality just aren't meeting. B is just giving me a panic attack. Other little stuff I can deal with and adjust to, just the fact that we didn't get a good feeling with B is sending me over the edge. I'm calling the OB in a few to talk to them.

I don't think you're being unreasonable at all! I go to a big practice and have had a different sono tech each time, some were better than others but all of them made sure to give us copies of the pictures and we always heard the heartbeat. I would def call and ask to have another one done.

Re: Am I being unreasonable?

It sounds like their bedside manner is definitely lacking, but from what you described, they did get all the info they needed from the sono and both babies are right on track so try not to lose sleep over it. Chat Icon

And FYI for my first appointments at 8wks I never "heard" the heartbeats. I don't think they even told me what the bpms were. I did get a picture though.

But since your dr got all the info they needed from the sono and was not concerned, I'm not sure they will be willing to let you come back. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'm at that office. I know the sono tech you're talking about. She's really moody at times. I'm on baby 3 and I've never not gotten a printed picture from her. And I never had to ask. That's really strange. I would bring that up to erhart or whoever you see next. My first thought was to think about switching, but knowing its erharts office I would consider staying. Erhart is amazing. You can request him when you make your appointments. Usually he sees ob patients when they are further along. The np's are really knowledgable and usually answer every crazy question I have. Feel free to pm me with any additional questions. I'm a firm believer I was able to have vaginal deliveries because erhart was so patient and good at what he does. (Ds was so big he got stuck) He has amazing bedside manners and that to me is what counts when you are most vulnerable giving birth. Having said that, I do understand why you feel this way. I would call and maybe even ask for erhart to call you back and explain what happened.

Eta: that sono tech is their full time one. In my last pregnancy I had a tech that was there one day a week. I forget which day. Ask if the other tech is still there and reschedule ur nt with her. She was great! Explained everything!

Awesome thank you so much for the info!!! I am supposed to see Erhart at the 12 week apt. If you were told the baby was measuring on target and had a good heartbeat, try not to worry. I would also be disappointed by the experience and tech, but I would not request a new sonogram. I doubt they would do it. I think speaking to the doctor about your experience and asking him to explain the sonogram results, and requesting to not have that tech again make sense.

Some OB offices don't have the equipment that lets you hear the heartbeat - I never heard it for my kids except at my NT scan and my anatomy scan (or at the OBs office with the doppler when I was farther along).

Not at all! I'm glad you called back. I'm not familiar with this doctor but based on your appt if they don't let you go back in I'd switch. I loved my OB bc he reassured me constantly through my pregnancies with detailed ultrasounds at every appt which I felt I really needed after coming from an RE & all the dr in practice do the same for every patient.

Not unreasonable. Not at that office, but I have a less favorite tech too, but she does give pictures. And we definitely hear the heartbeat. Did you ask to hear it and she refused? I know my office is pretty liberal with Sonos to put you at ease if needed, I hope you get a better view of baby B soon!

Wow, I'm shocked. I've only ever seen one sono tech there. Roseanna? She's very knowledgable and I trust her judgement. If she thought it was ok then it definitely was. I'm also surprised that you thought she was rough. She's always very gentle when I go. In fact my RE sono tech was rough and made me bleed. I told her how nervous I was. Also, she always gave me a pic if I could get one. The only time she wouldn't was when she played around and went into 3D mode. She wasn't allowed to print those because she wasn't supposed to even be going into 3D mode. She let us take a pic of it though. The only person I'd stay away from there is Theresa. I've had bad experiences with her.

Yea I had a different sono tech once in 2014. I asked her when she's there and she told me only one day a week. I'm not even sure if she's still there. Hopefully for the op she is! I'm sure she's talking about Roe. (Never knew her full name) I've noticed she has moody days.

Am I being unreasonable?

Great update, he sounds like a great doctor. I thought it was just how the baby was, just like my baby B stubborn for photos and still is to this day (almost 5!). Enjoy your Tuesday scan. I will tell you with going from a twin pregnancy to a single pregnancy the lack of sonograms is sad haha.
