Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
So in May I took my 3 YO DD to the dentist for the 2nd time. She commented that my DD had a good amount of tarter behind her front teeth :( Since then we brush 2x a day religiously - admittedly I wasn't great about brushing every night before..
My dentist also told me to use toothpaste with fluoride even just a little - it won't harm her. I did that for a few months untli my PED told me he was dead set against it and he's not an alarmist. So I have been using fluroide free again.
So last night I noticed she has alot of yellow tarter again behind her front teeth. I don't know what else I can do!
Any tips?

Maybe use the fluoride toothpaste twice a week instead of every day?

What about using a spin-brush? I find those work a little bit better and they make them for kids.

Re: Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
If I'm not mistaken tartar is from excess saliva. The most common place is behind the top and bottom teeth. You can try flossing and mouthwash, but I know that’s not easy with a toddler. Regular 6 month visits also help to reduce build up over a long period of time. Good luck!

I use this on my son. He seems to like it. I also make it a game and tell him he needs to tickle all his teeth with the brush. Some days we're successful. Other days, we're not!

Another great idea. I'm going to pick up one today. As long as they have a princess one hopefully DD will be into it.

Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
My dr is the same way about flouride. My dd is 4 and I dont use flouride toothpaste consistently. I use it once a week at most.
I got my dd a spin brush she loves it and they do make them with characters.
Do you brush after your child does? I always give an extra good scrub with her toothpaste after she does.
And then Id say just go every 6 months if anything.

This.
U said that u've been brushing her teeth 2 times a day after seeing the dr, has it been a while since u started doing it? If it hasn't, I'd just stick with brushing her teeth twice a day but make sure u brush her teeth. If it has been a while since the app, I'd try to brush 3 times just so the tartar disappears, and continue doing it for a bit longer. Also u might want to make sure she drinks a good amount of water through the day.

Try these! My kids don't mind them at all, DD actually asks to floss her teeth

Re: Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
Don't fret about it at all! My son has tartar on his front teeth (top and bottom) and the dentist is okay with it. We actually go for cleanings every 4 months (covered by insurance) and have been going since he was just under a year old. We brush his teeth with flouride toothpaste with anti-tartar twice a day and floss his teeth each night (being flossing since he was about 3). Some people are prone to it and some times they outgrow it.

Re: Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
Yeah I thought that too. I actually had an appt with my PED last night and he said it could also be from her vitamins. So I'm no longer in a panic about it. We go to the dentist every 6 months so I'll ask when we go in September.

Re: Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
I'm going to get the flossers and try that with her too -- not that she's 3. I was in a panic about it but I'm calming down LOL. I'm going to start using the fluoride toothpaste 1 or 2x a week and see if that helps. Along with a spin brush. All these suggestions have been great!!

Re: Toddler Teeth - Getting rid of tarter
DD used to brush and then I would brush after her -- that was until we last saw the dentist. Now I do all the brushing and sometimes she does it after me. That way she's not sucking all the toothpaste off the toothbrush at first
We go every 6 months and as another poster mentioned, maybe my insurance could cover more frequent. I can look into that too.
