All pre-schools are filled... What do we do next?
Hi everyone,
My son was recently recommended to an integrated program in a 12:1:2 class. His two speech therapists who he has worked with for over a year dont think he needs to be switched into a different setting. Anyway, we had registered him in a mainstream nursery school setting months ago. He was also in a mainstream school for their two's program and did ok but we had many call-outs regarding my son not being able to focus very well and needing to constantly fidget.
My question is, we have been touring schools with integrated settings and they all seem to be full. Can we still get services outside of a school setting (like at an agency)? Do we call our district and let them know we are on waiting lists and plan on getting services outside? I just want to make sure i follow protocol and im not sure what to do as this is all new to me.

Yes, if there are no available placements the school district has to provide SEIT (basically a shadow in the classroom) to help meet his IEP goals.

don't give up hope. many people will say yes to spots, so they appear full in June, but when push comes to shove and school is about to start, there are always last minute changes. Make sure your name is on waiting lists in case a spot opens up someplace.

I went through my school district and they set everything up for preschool/ Not sure what town you are in but my DD went to DDI at airpark drive in Ronkonkoma and they were amazing. Also the Leeway school I think Sayville is also amazing!! Call the CSPE office in your district and have them help you.

Yes this. I know some parents who have said yes to any place that accepted their LO just to hold their spot and then eventually decided which one they wanted to go with and told the other schools their LO was no longer attending there.

there are also overfill spots that open up each semester, sept, jan, june. so ask about that too
