Those who've used Similac Sensitive or Advance

I have a 2 week old, and was using Similac Advance powder for the first week and she was doing great- very happy baby, pooping 2-3 times per day, slept for 3-4 hour stretches in between feedings at night, etc.

My husband was going to Costco last week so I told him to buy some more formula in bulk, and he ended up buying Similac Sensitive. I didn't think it was a big deal and just started giving her that because I figured if anything she would just be happier since it's a sensitive formula. She became SO gassy and was only pooping once every 36 hours. She would scream so loud everytime she had to pass gas and she was miserable all the time because I think she had to poop and couldn't. I switched back to the regular Similac Advance late yesterday afternoon, and she's pooped twice already, is happy again, and is sleeping way better.

I wonder why the sensitive formula would actually be worse than the regular one, and how common that is... I feel like most people have trouble with the regular formula and do better on sensitive! Did anyone else experience something similar?

I breastfeed so it may be different, but he was originally on similac for supplementation and seemed very gassy especially at night. switched to sensitive and he seems better, but I still hesitate to buy it in bulk lol

We had the same issues with sensitive. He was then put on almentium until he was 6 months old and then back to the regular similac, which he is doing well on.

Was he lactose intolerant? I thought alimentum was for babies who are allergiec to both milk and soy

Since switching back to the regular she is still pretty gassy, but nothing like the sensitive. She is pooping once a day, sometimes twice so I know that is helping. But she is still pretty fussy when she's not sleeping. I only made the switch back to the regular a few days ago, so I guess she just needs to adjust back to it? I am also reading that most 2 week olds are gassy because their digestive systems are still adjusting to everything. Maybe she will just grow out of it in another week or two..

No, he was having issues with gas and reflux but he doesn't appear to be lactose intolerant since he is now back on regular formula.

Alimentum was the only formula that worked for DD. She was a horrid, gassy mess.

It takes a while for their digestive system to develop (probably the reason most babies outgrow colic- their digestive system matures). In the meantime, I wouldn't switch formulas without consulting your ped.

No experience with Sensitive. Both my older girls did best on Enfamil Gentlease so I immediately put my now 3 week old on that when we get home from the hospital.

I will say that I feel like all my kids go through a gassy period (3-6 weeks) no matter what formula they are on. I feel like its just their digestive systems maturing and getting used to larger feedings.

I do use Mylicon in each bottle which seems to help with gas. Either way, I feel like things just get so much better after 6 weeks regardless.
