Anyone in a Hiring Role?

Just wondering if anyone here is working in a hiring role.
If so where are you finding the best candidates ?
What sites are you using to advertise the job?
Are you using recruiting companies if so which ones?

Are you finding it difficult to find qualified candidates?

Anyone in a Hiring Role?

We are having a terrible time finding candidates.. they could be qualified but have the worst work ethic EVER!
Work in healthcare.
We source candidates through HR and we do use companies as well... not sure exactly which ones

Very difficult to find qualified candidates in our specialized field of engineering. No one wants to work out East, they want to be in NYC, especially new grads. We use recruiters and consultants (Vivant in particular) but it's been tough to get the right people on board and have them stay long term.

Re: Anyone in a Hiring Role?

I'm convinced everyone out there sucks.
What a parade of winners I've had through here in the past year or so.
Most don't even know how to dress or present themselves for an interview. As in, comb your hair, maybe wash it within the week of the interview and don't dress like you are going out to walk the dog.
Stuff like that.

We use career builder, zip recruiter(but it stunk to be honest) and we are looking to get job diva.

Linked in is ok, but I'm not too well versed in using it for recruiting

I'm not in a hiring role although I used to be. We used indeed and also posted at local colleges (a lot of the open positions were entry-level). Other than that, the best candidates seemed to come from word of mouth so we really revamped the referral incentives for employees.

This- used Indeed the last two times we hired and was very happy with the selection of candidates

I'm not in a hiring role but I wanted to comment on this, based on the summer interns we've had this year. Oh dear Lord, it's like most of them have no clue how to conduct themselves in an office. Two or three of them would congregate at one cubicle and SIT ON THE FLOOR to chit chat. Another time I overheard two of them in the restroom (yes, while in the stalls Chat Icon) and I hope they never took any speech classes because their professors would be ashamed. Most of the summer intern slots are filled by referral so there's no real choice in what we wind up with.

LOL. At least when I picture interns, I picture young college kids who never worked in an office before. Not that it's not common sense, but I cut them more slack than grown ass women who have been working for 10 years and more in office settings and who show up to interviews looking like pigs . It depends on the role, level of seniority, and geography/location of job, but I usually have the best luck using LinkedIn.

Re: Anyone in a Hiring Role?

I agree w/ the above re: level and seniority of the role you are looking to fill. I am not in HR but at my old firm, I was in charge of hiring my replacement (small firm, boss hated fact I was leaving for more $) and I placed ads for attorney an a secretary on Craigslist and the NY Law Journal. I got some duds but based on what I posted, I attracted some pretty top notch candidates (1 guy actually showed up at the office dressed in suit/tie w/ resume in hand - had no interview, just desperate for the jobChat Icon ). For the secretary position, I made sure my ad stated requirements so I managed to avoid unqualified applicants or millenials w/ no respect for corporate culture.. Chat Icon

I second Indeed and LinkedIn - word of mouth really helps a lot. The last 3 job offers I've received were all from people I either worked with or knew from past/current projects. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone in a Hiring Role?

Interestingly, I'm not in a hiring position, but would LOVE a position in Long Island (I currently work in the city). I'm constantly looking for recruiters in Long Island. Can anyone help? My background is in advertising and packaging design firms as Senior Account Management...

Hope -

I'm in accounting and had good luck with Green Key Resources as headhunters. I didn't ultimately go with a company I interviewed with through them but I did receive offers. The person I used was experienced in accounting and he knew the industry on the island really well. Super helpful. Maybe they have a segment for advertising?

I'm not in a hiring role- I just have to interview the crap HR sends me when I have a position to fill.

I am job hunting though and am using indeed mostly and lots of word of mouth. I work in a relatively small industry where there are only so many places we can go. Oh and I'm also looking on LI and EVERYTHING is in the city.

I am very curious about all these open positions people are trying to fill. I have been using Indeed and send my resume out multiple times a day and get nothing. It is obvious from my resume I am not a kid and I have a strong and proven work record (same company with promotions for 15 years).
I promise you I will show up showered, well dressed and with a professional demeanor!! Chat Icon

I work for a huge construction company/manufacturer, so we are hiring engineers, project managers, technical designers, and general laborers.

Re: Anyone in a Hiring Role?

The place I am leaving on Friday hired someone for my job off Craigslist. I was actually SHOCKED at how many VERY qualified people we got in here through the ad.
