Baby shower gift
A very close family member is expecting her first baby. She isn't having a baby shower but is registered. Normally I would buy 1 large nice gift. For her bridal shower last year I bought her the kitchenaid mixer. But I'm thinking of doing something different this time and doing a huge basket full all the odds and ends. Price wise it would be the same, in fact I might wind up spending more on all the little stuff then just 1 big thing. I know she'll be grateful for whatever I get but what would you prefer to receive?

Re: Baby shower gift
Either way you go is great. I like the idea of giving a gift basket, especially if you're a mom yourself. You probably have insight into items that others would never think to buy! Plus, a gift basket is so much more personal than just a big gift off the registry.

Thank you! I'm leaning this way because I also think its more personal. I was worried though it would look cheap in comparison.

Baby shower gift
I would go with the big ticket item only for the fact, if people want to buy a gift and only $10 items or $200 items are left, they will most likely buy a bunch of small items, rather than go over their budget. Otherwise, they go off the registry.
Either way, like you said, I'm sure she'll be grateful in anything you get her. My cousin is my BFF and when we had our LO she asked what I wanted this way it was something personal and meant something. She got me my diaper bag and put a few odds and ends in it.

Baby shower gift
I love both ideas!! So cute...but maybe a big ticket item would be better. I just think of all the big ticket items I need and it adds up or make a smaller basket and then get a gift card to put towards a big ticket item. Either way she'll love it though

I love the idea of a personalized basket but would go with the big ticket gift unless they are well off $$$.
It can be overwhelming to walk in to the store and have to purchase a few items worth hundreds of dollars upfront so that may alleviate some of the burden $$ whereas the gift basket is extremely thoughtful and useful but those smaller items can be purchased as need KWIM.

Re: Baby shower gift
The basket is a nice idea but I would go with a big ticket item. The basket is thoughtful but they'll use the bigger item much longer. My sister bought our glider and a basket full of little items and clothing. Three girls later and I'm still rocking the baby to sleep in the glider. The clothes, burp cloths, wipes, toys, etc are long gone.
