RR spinoff question (about delays)
What is your employer's stance on employees being late due to delays? Are they understanding? Do you have to make up the time somewhere else?

RR spinoff question (about delays)
We always had flex time, so if I came in later, I was expected to work later.

Re: RR spinoff question (about delays)
My job is understanding. They don't tell us "you must make up the time" bc we don't punch in and out but it's expected that if you got in late, you're not leaving at 5 on the dot.

Re: RR spinoff question (about delays)
We're not expected to make it up unless it's a habit and at that point you can't really blame the train. My co-worker was constantly clocking it 20 minutes late and my boss would make her stay 20 minutes later to make up for it.

Re: RR spinoff question (about delays)
I work alone in the city so if I'm not on time I'm screwed. I am in by 6:45-7am on Wednesdays when I'm with my boss. We start at 8. The other days if I'm late, it's not more than 10 min and the docs just have to deal with it.

RR spinoff question (about delays)
A lot of people commute in my office. There are actually 3 or 4 employees that take the same train as me, so everyone is very understanding. Thank god or I may have been fired this week!

RR spinoff question (about delays)
I'm the only one who commutes from LI in my office. My boss is a saint and extremely understanding. I'm very, very lucky.

Re: RR spinoff question (about delays)
I posted on the other thread by my boss used to get really pissed. On top of that, I would come in to a million voice mails from lawyers and my clients. Most coworkers lived in the city, no one on LI. The only good thing is one of my evil coworkers would check the news and report delays to everyone for me lol

Re: RR spinoff question (about delays)
My husband works in midtown in sales and we live in Suffolk. Every other employee, except one, lives in NYC.
The ridiculously poor performance of the LIRR is the reason why my husband asked to work from home 3 days a week. He can't sell on the train and the delays were every week, often more than once. Since this arrangement his sales are way up. Commuting, on a good week, he wasted 2 hours each way, 20 potential hours each week. That's a lot of $$$.
BTW: I have three ex-pat friends. Two have lived in 12 different cities in Eur-Asia and they both said the LIRR is, by far, the WORST, public transportation of any city they visited/lived in.

RR spinoff question (about delays)
When there is a train issue it usually makes half the company late so what can they do. I work for a huge company and no one is tracking our minutes so it's never a big deal.

Re: RR spinoff question (about delays)
Yes my office is understanding as well. We have 3 people commuting from NJ, 6 from LI and 2 from Staten Island. 2 of the partners commute from LI so they fully understand the workings of the LIRR.
We all have families and other obligations so they are flexible on when we make up the time. We don't necessarily have to that same day and we all make sure to work the time missed at some point during the week

RR spinoff question (about delays)
No one cares if you are late at my job. We aren't really expected to make up the time but most people stay at least a little after 5 anyway.
