Just a little concerned but should I be?

So I had my 20 week sonogram today and they said everything looks fine but baby wasn't cooperating so they couldn't get a good view of heart or brain I guess so I need to go back in a week for another scan. Then the dr said I need to go for a fetal echo in 2 weeks. She said it was just a precaution since baby was conceived through ivf and I have early onset gestational diabetes. I had early onset GD with my DD and nobody did this so I didn't know if others who have conceived through ivf have heard of this. Then I was concerned maybe they did see something today but didn't want to tell me, but they can't do that right?

Sounds like they are being thorough and overly cautious but I wouldn't necessarily think anything bad has happened. Hang in there!

Same thing here. Ivf. I went for a fetal echo and also had to go back to finish the anatomy scan. Then I went back 4 weeks later for a growth scan. I'm currently 30 weeks and went for another growth scan. Everything looks good :)

This just made me realize, over a year later, that I didn't get a fetal echo with my second but I did with my first. Hmmm. GD both times.

Unless I forgot and I actually did have one the second time. Chat Icon Chat Icon

If they saw something, the Dr would have told you. I had a fetal echo with my 1st after they tried twice with the anatomy scan and didn't get a good view.

Probably, yes they would tell you. But to be completely frank, we had a scenario in my first pregnancy where my doctor did not tell me the full story. Rather than wonder about it till your next sono, I'd personally give a call in and express your concerns. Most likely everything is perfectly fine, but I know for me, the worrying and wondering about it would be enough to call and put my mind at ease.

Just posted something about this yesterday, and I feel the same as you like are they hiding something. They want me to go back in 4 weeks for growth and none of my other friends had to go and they went to the same place. I called and spoke to an actual tech not the receptionist and she assured me all is fine that its just something they do. They also had a tough time getting an image of the back of the head but luckily they got it and they said I didn't have to go back so I was so confused. I do have GD so maybe thats why but they didn't indicate thats the reason to go back.

I would think they would tell you if they suspected something could be wrong. If you are worried, definitely call and express your concerns. Maybe you could talk to the nurse or another doctor in the practice to get their explanation.

I was also sent for a fetal echo, and it also made me nervous that there was something wrong and they weren't telling me. But they said it's because I'm over 35 and because I have an MVP, though I had it before and never had a fetal echo with my other two. So. But all turned out fine with the test.

It sounds like they are being overly cautious like my doctors, and I bet you are fine.

My dr told me it is standard with all IVF babies. He even went on to say that in his opinion he doesn't think it is really necessary but it is standard protocol so he follows it.
