What's in your hospital bag??

I can't for the LIFE OF ME remember what I packed last time.

So far I have - 2 pairs nursing pajamas (pants, tank top, wrap sweater) 1 nursing nightgown, like 6 pairs of huge crappy underwear, 2 pairs of cozy socks, 2 nursing bras (the pull over your head cotton kind), a go home outfit for me (yoga pants, t-shirt, zip up hoodie), toothbrush/toothpaste, extra contacts, hairbrush (need to get travel shampoo/soap).

I need to put nearby my boppy, and I know I'll want to bring a pillow of my own...

What am I missing?

headphones
Lotion
deodorant
scrunchi / headband / hair tie
chapstick / lip gloss

What's in your hospital bag??

Last time I had

2 pj pants
1 nursing tank
1 nursing bra
Maxi dress to go home in
Flip flops
Curling wand
Make up
Big undies
Big pads
Boppy
My pillow
Chargers
Dslr camera
Snacks
Clothes for dh (2 outfits, undies, sleep shorts)
3 outfits with accessories for Dd

I want to pack my bag in another 2 weeks or so, and I'm at loss of what to do about clothes. Last time was summer, so it was easy to throw on a maxi dress and feel pulled together and human. This time I feel destined to be frumpy Chat Icon

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I have no idea what I'm going to wear home.

To the OP, I also have a Bose speaker and new body wash/lotion

Re: What's in your hospital bag??

I finished packing mine yesterday and here's what I have:

2 pair of underwear & socks for DH
Mesh shorts for DH to sleep in
2 lounge shirts for DH
1 long sleeve for going home
Snacks & waters
cheap flip flops for the shower
4 pair of oversized granny panties
2 tight sports bras (I dont plan to BF)
3-4 pair of socks
2 pair of comfy sweatpants
1 zip up hoodie
2 lounging shirts
1 shirt to go home in (I'm planning on wearing my maternity jeans to L&D and then home again)
phone/ipad chargers

Toiletries:
mini toothpaste
travel toothbrush (for me and DH)
hair ties
q-tips
mini deodorant (for me and DH)
travel hairbrush
chapstick (TRUST me you'll need this)
travel size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash
minimal makeup (for pictures)
body spray/travel perfume

For baby:
pacifiers (if your hospital doesnt provide them)
going home outfit
Swaddle Me
blanket for carseat
boppy pillow
empty diaper bag

It sounds like a lot, but (other than the baby's stuff) it all fit very nicely in an overnight bag with room to spare!

This is hilarious. I am tempted to buy these. What size did you get? I was a 6 pre preg.

I'd also like to add advil to this list. If you are NOT breastfeeding it is easier to just take your own then depend on the nurse. With my first i waited hours to get 400mg's... this time im not suffering!

They were fantastic! Though I will say I actually liked the mesh undies. Chat Icon

I was a 6 pre-pregnancy and I got the small/medium size.

ETA: I ordered them on Amazon since I was too embarrassed to go to the store and buy them myself. Chat Icon

I think there are only 2 sizes. You could get the small ones.

I used them after both deliveries- vaginal and c-section. No ruined underwear- just wear and toss.

My hospital didn't have mesh underwear.

I'd be cautious with advil. If you end in a section, I don't think you can take it. Usually advil is advised against after any type of surgery as it is like taking an asprin.

I think they gave me ibuprofen after my section. Tylenol immediately after but a few hours later I was getting either Motrin or oxy (alternating). I was also breastfeeding. I would not advise bringing your own. They monitor meds for a reason. My husband had brought his own Advil and the doctor saw and I got a lecture about self medicating while a patient because she thought it was for me. God forbid something happens.

Is this to be used with a pad or is it in lieu of one?

I got ibuprofen after my section. It's usually an issue before surgery, not after.

I didn't have a hospital bag- I didn't know if I would be sent home. Sent DH home to get stuff and he returned with various things that were of no use to me, except my makeup Chat Icon

In the end, I needed about 3 tops, 3 pairs of leggings and sports bras. Deodorant, hair ties, lip balm. Then a going home outfit for DD and a blanket for the car (winter baby). I wore the mesh undies which were awesome and the hospital's pads, though I hardly bled. I didn't bother with snacks, people brought us food and there was an Au Bon Pain downstairs. I remember seeing people's lists when I was pregnant and thinking it was impossible to need to much stuff. I was right, you definitely don't need much.

ETA: NSUH had decent body wash/shampoo so I didn't bring that. Also, you do not need to dress your baby in outfits daily. Doing so will serve no purpose other than pissing off the nurses who have enough to do without fussing with outfits.

Arye (the saline lotion for your nostrils) I had DS in mid October and got nose bleeds in the hospital from it being dry.
