I went to Pinder winery this week and found this interesting
The cost of buying wine is more than if purchased at my local wine store. I would have thought the cost would be less since there is no travel or middle person, just found it odd and interesting.

Yep it's like that at all wineries out there. You can buy it at a local liquor or wine store for a lot less
One reason- Tourist Trap.

They also offer bulk prices to the liquor stores, but the "case discounts" at the winery work out to be less.

I saw that for every 3-5 bought 5% disc and so on. I don't drink that much to where I would want a case full.

I was going to say the same. Don't get me wrong...I love going to the wineries, but they definitely play off of the "OMG! I'm at the ACTUAL winery!" mentality.

And it's gotten way worse. When I met DH in 1997 we used to go out there all the time because his sister lives out there. The wineries were amazing back then. Never crowded, no buses and limos and penis necklace wearing bachlorettes, and all the tastings were FREE.
Now, it's just a huge touristy mess

I actually chosen not to buy. I would love my money to support LI products but I'm not a big drinker, it takes me a week to finish a bottle and that's if I remember I have an open bottle.
I really went for the ride in search of the sunflowers!!! never found them

Found the same at macari. I love their rose. Was $3 more at their tasting room than at Tsew Lenard's.

ya, but... I get it but not really.
Its like King Kullen, LI based supermarket, family owned and cost more then those based out of state. I like to shop there but not all the time due to the cost. It makes no sense to me on some level

It's just the law of demand.
They charge it simply because they can.
If sales dropped, so would the price.
I love the wineries but they are so crowded and overpriced these days that I tend to avoid them.
It's not worth it.
