Liivf banking embryos
Hi all i have started my first. Cycle with dr kreiner at liivf. Er was today and i got 8 eggs. I am planning to do pgs testing. I was informed today that my clinic freezes all my embryos at day 3 and waits till my next batch and then unfreezes the day 3 lets them grow to day 5 and then sends out to testing? Why i dont understand... why not let the embryos go to day 5 and then test as opposes to freezing , thaw , the freeze and thaw again.. makes no sense has anyone elses clinic does this...i was told if i wasnt banking they would go to day 5 ... anyone else gone through this?

My guess is if you're doing 2 rounds and then PGS testing, it's less expensive (for you) to pay for PGS once than twice?

Re: Liivf banking embryos
When vitrifying (instead of out-moded slow-freeze) it should not affect embryos much to freeze, thaw, and refreeze. I banked at CCRM (best clinic in the country) and they froze at 2pn (day 1, when you get fert report) and then grow the entire batch out to 5/6 for biopsy. This is to save the patient money since many clinics charge per round of PGS. CCRM bases everything on data to keep their success rates sky-high, so they wouldn't do this if it hurt outcomes.
However, I have also heard (from O. Davis @ Cornell years ago) that embryos don't fair as well when frozen on day 3 because they are on the threshold of blastulating and it's a delicate time to interrupt growth. Maybe things have changed with the advent of vitrification.
Anyhow, these are great questions for your doctor. I would call and have them answered.
