DisneyLAND
I am going to CA over February break. I have never been to Disneyland (but have been to Disney World many times, most recently in August). I know DL is much smaller than DW but any tips or advice?
We will be going with my best friend and her kids. We will be 3 or 4 adults and 3 kids, ages 2.5, 3, & 4.
We only plan on going for one day...she lives in Coto de Caza which is only 30 miles from DL. Should I get the Park Hopper ticket? Can we do both Disneyland Park and Adventure Park in one day?
I just read that you can't make ADRs until 60 days out and its regular FastPass and not FP+ like in DW? I'm wondering if it's hard to get FP tickets for rides/times that you want? Is it like a mad dash to the FP machines?

will you be purchasing a hopper Pass?
The parks are literally next to one another...so it will take no time at all to get to the 2nd park.
if you will only visit one, i suggest CA Adventure. the night Water Color show is really cool and this park is only 16 years old...its is a little more spread out and easier to navigate without being stuck in a crowd.
get to the park early....security for both parks is one giant line.
you will need to run through the park for fast passes...so make sure you know the park maps and choose which fast passes you want and make a plan to get those.

We are planning to do Disneyland in 2017. I plan to spend 2 or 3 days there. From my research, 2 parks in one day will be hard, especially with young kids. My kids can't go all day. We need a break in the middle.

There is a lot packed into both of those parks, it's more deceiving than it looks IMO. DLR Prep is a GREAT resource for Disney Land Planning. She is on Facebook.

Thanks... I appreciate everyone's responses. I will be in CA for the week but I think we will probably only spend one day in DL. I guess I will just talk to my friend and see what she wants to do. I know she's been there before since she lives so close but I feel like I'm a better planner lol

Thanks! As much as I thought it was crazy to have to plan our Disney World vacation so far in advance (the ADRs and FP+) I am now wishing that DL offered those options too! lol) Running through the park for FPs doesn't sound fun

We went to CA in June and spent 3 days at Disneyland: 2 at the main park and 1 at the CA adventure park. Even though the adventure park is something different, I think the younger ones would enjoy the main park better as there are more rides geared towards them. We aren't park hopper people and I think it's a lot to try to do 2 parks in 1 day.
We didn't need to run through the park to get FP. We also didn't plan out our days like we did at DW. Even the ones that eventually fill up will be the rides that the little ones can't go on. Compared to DW, I was pleasantly surprised by the lower crowds, significantly shorter waiting times and ease of traveling through the park. If your kids can stay up, the light parade at the main park is impressive.
The only dining we booked was the Goofy one at the Disneyland hotel for the night we arrived because I wanted to do 1 character meal. I only booked it a few weeks before our trip and didn't have an issue with the time. We had no problem getting into other places to eat at the parks.

Glad to hear that crowds are more manageable. We are planning to go July 2017.
Can you go to any FP kiosk to get 3 FP for the day or do you have to go to the actual ride to get a FP for a later time?
I only remember the FP you had to run to ride to get and then FP+. I wish Disneyland had FP+.

You have to go to the actual ride. The park is much smaller than DW so it's significantly easier to pick up a FP and then head elsewhere. There were even things we were going to get a FP for, but the wait times ended up being reasonable (under 20 minutes). Even rides like Peter Pan, which you typically need FP, were 45 minutes at the height of the day. You definitely need FP for certain rides, but it's not that bad to stop by to pick it up. Also, if you have older kids and younger kids, the child swap is great and allows your kids to ride twice, once with each adult, while the other waits with the younger child.
