Dental Implant: Feeling of fake tooth
I just got a dental implant and the tooth put in feels really fake. Everytime my tongue touches it, it just doesn't feel like part of my mouth. It feels big and bulky. It looks natural, but doesn't feel it from the inside. Do I just need to get used to it? Is this normal? I'm freaking out a bit because I have had problems with this dentist before. I thought it would feel more natural throughout the day, but it doesn't.

Huh, I don't know. Mine I couldn't even tell, when I've had caps those took getting use to but my implant I don't even know it's there. Did the dentist say anything?

Mine felt the same way - like it was too big for the hole.
After about 2 months it felt normal.

Re: Dental Implant: Feeling of fake tooth
FYI- The tooth fell off the next day. I think it didn't feel right because it wasn't on tight enough. It was popping up. The dentist is going to make me a new one to see if I like it better. I hate this cr@p!

Re: Dental Implant: Feeling of fake tooth
You'll get used to it. I am waiting for the tooth part of my implant, but prior to this i had a cap, which was MUCH bigger on the inside than my real tooth. It bothered me at first but after that i didn't notice it at all..

Re: Dental Implant: Feeling of fake tooth
So, I got a second opinion and the other dentist said the tooth was made poorly. That's why it fell right off. She also insinuated that the dentist gave me something cheap. I went back to the original dentist with this new info. and he redid the tooth. Well, this new tooth feels better, but still incredibly fake. I am going to get a cleaning elsewhere and get a second opinion about this tooth. This is definitely not normal to feel like you have a hunk of plastic in your mouth. If another dentist says what he did is not good again, then I am going to ask for a refund. If he refuses I'll try my best to at least get some money back. If not, I am out $1300. I can't live like this. Any thoughts?

Re: Dental Implant: Feeling of fake tooth
i chipped some of my teeth (one was a front one) when i was a teenager and went to multiple dentists to try to get them re-done, i was never happy with how they looked/felt. Finally I went to a cosmetic dentist who made it look real. It may have felt "foreign" at first but you get used to it. I did have to pay a couple of thousand out of pocket but it was worth it to get a good job done on it.

Dental implants feel like your nature teeth, they are best solution for broken, missing or stained tooth for a long time.

That seems awfully cheap for a dental implant....i would definitely go to someone else and have it redone. It should be a few thousand dollars.
