New dog - unsure

Hi all - 2 weeks ago my 11 year old lab passed due to a mass. I've always had two dogs so this past weekend I went and looked around. After a few visits we adopted a 10 month old Shepard terrier mix from North Shore. The first night home it snapped twice at my husband when he tried to help get her outside. That scared me and I was unsure how I felt. The last two days she's been good. A little hyper and has trouble listening. The dog wanted to cuddle with me but I was scared of her being so close to me. Even though she seems sweet, she scares me. Her bark is scary and I'm not sure if this was the best adoption.

I want to bring her back because I just can't shake this feeling. My husband says it's my call. I've never returned a dog and my heart breaks thinking of returning her. But is it fair to keep a dog I don't feel love for? Advice please

Call North shore and ask to speak to the director of pet behavior. She is an amazing dog trainer that worked with me and my dog for a long time. She has a long history of workIng with shelter dogs and will be able to help you to figure out your next move.

I've been so annoyed with them. Since this happened we left 3-4 messages at the behavior line and no call back. That was the first thing I did.

I would give it a little time to be honest. Remember she is a rescue, her past learning history influences her current behavior. You don't know what truly happened to her before her adoption. Also, dogs sense fear and use that to their advantage. If she wants to cuddle with you, cuddle with her. Command respect from her but show respect at the same time. I would give it some time. I believe you have 30 days to bring the dog back right?

We brought her back last night. She snapped again. I couldn't worry about my kids. I hope the right people adopt her. Chat Icon

aww, when you brought her back what did they say? did you tell them you looked for help but no one called you?

I dont know if you gave her enough time to adjust as other said, but if you feel this way now about her your fear might only get worse, which wont be good for either of you.

They were nasty. They told me if I want to adopt again I need to take a class. They had no record of our 4 voicemails or Facebook message.

I dont blame you for bringing the dog back. If you had any type of fear or hesitation she just wasnt the right fit.
