See, but I think part of Trump's success is that he appeals to people who look back on that time as the "good old days" and yearn for a return to that. Many in our older generations do not like the concept of minorities (that includes women and people of color) being in leadership positions with a few exceptions. Those same people hate that people like Obama and Clinton are succeeding and like the idea of Trump (an arrogant, rich, white man) in office because that is what they believe was the norm.
I really hope that we, as a country, continue on the path of progress and vote Clinton into office. In my heart of hearts, I really believe that she will be our next president but you never know in this crazy world of ours.
I have said that too, especially on LIF, that Making America Great again really just means going back to a time when white men were firmly in positions of power, racial strife was easily subdued and not as present in the media, illegal immigrants weren't "stealing" jobs, women were only considered to be competent in the sphere of domesticity or in feminized careers like secretaries and teachers...and people of Trump's generations see that time as the good ol days and they want to go back to that. They don't want the government to subsidize poor people, they believe everyone just needs to pull themselves up by their bootstraps to get somewhere in life, they want the freedom to bear arms and say whatever they want without any repercussions because being politically or socially correct is for wimps.
This is EXACTLY what "make America great again" is code for. When people say they want to make America great again, what they're really saying is they want it to go back to a time when men would chase their secretaries around a desk, when women would get a slap on the ass for doing a good job, a woman's place was in the kitchen, when a woman's purpose in life was to be a wife and mother and aspired to be a homemaker with a hot meal ready on the table when the man of the house got home, when gays were in the closet, when Muslims were people who lived in other countries, when a Mexican's job was to pick your fruit and mow your lawn, when it was acceptable to ban non-whites and non-Christians from joining an organization, when African Americans "knew their place" was at the back of the bus, before affirmative action was implemented, and I'm pretty sure there are many Trump supporters who would love to go back to a time when minorities had their own schools and water fountains lest they get hosed down for drinking from the white fountain, and now let's add when men sexually assaulted women without repercussions. It doesn't get lower than all this. It says a lot when the leader of the KKK is openly out there in full support of a candidate. This is pretty much all I see when someone says they are a Trump supporter. I'm picturing what they must look like with their white hood on.
I agree wholeheartedly. And I think the collective ignoring of these issues from Trump supporters means they truly don't care, if they cared it would mean that they would have to feel something wrong about what he said, and for many, they fundamentally don't think what he says/did is wrong.

The first time I ever heard about Bill Clinton raping anyone was about 3 days ago... so either I missed something or it's a great example of deflecting.
I find both of these candidate deplorable. They each possess qualities that are so unfavorable - one does not top the other.

I wish some people would put themselves in her place for a minute. How would you react to the women who accused your husband of infidelity? She was angry and she had a daughter and her public image to protect.
I'm not saying that what she did was right, but I think people forget that she was a wife and a mother handling her husband's infidelity in the public eye.
I'll research this myself, but did any of these women press charges? I believe Paula Jones sought monetary damages, but I don't believe there were criminal charges.

I'm not for Trump or Hillary, but please explain to me how it's "free speech" when Hillary calls alleged rape victim trailer park trash but when Trump mocks people it's something different than free speech? You have to hold both of these useless candidates to the same standard.

Exactly! I mean let's all take a stroll over to the Relationship board and see how many women on here have been cheated on by their husbands - and those men are GUILTY, just like Bill Clinton is of infidelity - but we're all chiming in and calling the woman he cheated with a wh*re, home wrecker, slut, etc.
And when you look at the winners Bill chose.. women who absolutely capatilized on his indiscretion. Ginnifer Flowers made a pretty penny off of it, Monica Lewinsky saved the freakin dress - come on!! And I'm sure he legitimately sexually harassed others who did not turn a profit, who may or may not have been silenced or chosen to stay silent. But he isn't running for president now. His wife is and I think it's abhorrent the way she gets crapped all over for HIS infidelity.

I judge someone for staying with a creepy partner who has had many (countless) accusations against him. We see it all the time and say it here... where there is smoke, there's fire. We have seen this time and time again. Bill Cosby comes to mind.
Yeah Billy isn't gonna be president. So what. How anyone can stand with him, married to him, I judge and question their motives and stances. You can not be a feminist and stay with him. Impossible. I'm not even talking about cheating - I don't care about that.

I haven't seen any evidence that she in fact called any one of them trailer trash - hearsay maybe, but I don't see any cold hard truth to the statement.
And calling someone a name like trailer trash is not OK - I didn't say it was - but she isn't breaking the law. Trump is not breaking the law either by mocking a disabled reporter, but he has continually, throughout the election, denigrated and verbally assaulted the people of this country, practically on a daily basis. So while neither of them are doing anything illegal by name-calling, there is certainly more incendiary mudslinging being done on his part.

You're correct. But had she told Bill to **** offf and did what we all should do - really take a second to hear those women and their accusations and not dismiss them - and see what a horrible creep he is and a predator - she would have gained so much respect.
I can't sit there and have any respect for Cosby's wife. I couldn't sit there and trust her to make the judgements you need as president if you're so clouded, misguided, and maybe just stick with things to get where you want. No. those women are victims.
People somehow love Bill. He was so cool, charming, played sax. He's so feeble now. How could sweet Billy be so bad? Well he is. He's a predator. I have zero doubt he's done as accused plus more. I also believe trump has done the same and worse.
Huma Weiner ditching Anthony Weiner - I applaud. I would venture that she runs one day - without Anthony dragging her down.
But you simply can't tie yourself to a dead corpse and then wonder why everyone can't stop complaining about the stink. That's my thinking.
I'm tired of power plays. We have shit to do. We deserve candidates who are solid and stand for shit in their own lives as well as outside.

So they're competing for the title of what, most leacherous former president and most leacherous presidential nominee? It's not doing anything productive to keep trying to make Hillary accountable for Bill's actions.
And yes - we coulda, shoulda, woulda with the election but harping on needing better candidates isn't productive either - this is what we have and we can't change it. Maybe if people were more politically inclined to actually give a shit instead of being apathetic we would have a better chance in the future, but right now, people are either clueless, angry, stupefied or simply don't care. So the hand we have is the hand we dealt ourselves and the only way to change it is to stop ******** about the past and, if you really have a passion for politics, to get involved at the most basic, grassroots levels and make change happen because we know we can't trust them to look out of best interest.

I judge someone for staying with a creepy partner who has had many (countless) accusations against him. We see it all the time and say it here... where there is smoke, there's fire. We have seen this time and time again. Bill Cosby comes to mind.
Yeah Billy isn't gonna be president. So what. How anyone can stand with him, married to him, I judge and question their motives and stances. You can not be a feminist and stay with him. Impossible. I'm not even talking about cheating - I don't care about that.
You are the company you keep. Trump got shit for David Duke. Well Hillary is married to this guy.
People say we don't get it. It's strategic. She stayed with him to get where she is and she's worked hard and we can't judge her for him. I do. To me, that means she would do absolutely anything to get ahead…for her own gain.
Doesn't sit well with me.
Just my two cents and I don't like trump either.
She's playing the game every male politician has ever played, so I don't know why it should be surprising that she has an agenda. Her motivation for public service is 40 years in the making, why is she getting slammed for doing everything male politicians have done and worse?

You're correct. But had she told Bill to **** offf and did what we all should do - really take a second to hear those women and their accusations and not dismiss them - and see what a horrible creep he is and a predator - she would have gained so much respect.
I can't sit there and have any respect for Cosby's wife. I couldn't sit there and trust her to make the judgements you need as president if you're so clouded, misguided, and maybe just stick with things to get where you want. No. those women are victims.
People somehow love Bill. He was so cool, charming, played sax. He's so feeble now. How could sweet Billy be so bad? Well he is. He's a predator. I have zero doubt he's done as accused plus more. I also believe trump has done the same and worse.
Huma Weiner ditching Anthony Weiner - I applaud. I would venture that she runs one day - without Anthony dragging her down.
But you simply can't tie yourself to a dead corpse and then wonder why everyone can't stop complaining about the stink. That's my thinking.
I'm tired of power plays. We have shit to do. We deserve candidates who are solid and stand for shit in their own lives as well as outside.
I agree that Bill Clinton is no angel and maybe he has had some serious indiscretions. As has Trump. So they're competing for the title of what, most leacherous former president and most leacherous presidential nominee? It's not doing anything productive to keep trying to make Hillary accountable for Bill's actions.
And yes - we coulda, shoulda, woulda with the election but harping on needing better candidates isn't productive either - this is what we have and we can't change it. Maybe if people were more politically inclined to actually give a shit instead of being apathetic we would have a better chance in the future, but right now, people are either clueless, angry, stupefied or simply don't care. So the hand we have is the hand we dealt ourselves and the only way to change it is to stop ******** about the past and, if you really have a passion for politics, to get involved at the most basic, grassroots levels and make change happen because we know we can't trust them to look out of best interest.
I agree with you as a whole on the second part. But I do find serious fault with Hillary on this. It's unsettling to me and goes against what I believe. I wish it were easier.
I know you are profoundly disillusioned with this election and that's OK. This is a circus and we look like fools.
I am. I can't wait until it's over. I'm so sickened by everything on all sides.

I totally disagree.
. Same here. It isn't for anyone to judge why people stay together. We don't know what their marriage is like behind closed doors, what her real feelings are towards him etc. too many unknowns.

At this point, for anyone to really believe they are together because of an undying love and devotion to each other is naive. I firmly believe there is affection and companionship and a deep friendship, but it is now at the very least a business arrangement. And plenty of people have relationships like that, and for that kind of marriage to be judged more than a thrice-married known philanderer is impossible to compare.

I agree. Even if they don't love each other , but have affection , friendship etc there are plenty of people in those marriages and don't think it makes her any less of a feminist or an empowered women.
