Which name for our DD?
Here's a little background. DH and I had a hard time picking a name. Everything I liked he hated and vice versa. EXCEPT for one name that I've loved for the last 8 years. We both agreed on Emmalynn. I loved it, he liked it enough. We also both agreed on Nora for her middle name (it was DH's grandmother's name who he was very close to).
When we started talking about nicknames, I immediately thought we would call her Emma for short. And a lot of our family has already started referring to the baby as Emma. But DH absolutely HATES the name Emma. Like, with a passion. And he made it clear from the beginning he wants to call her Emily for short. My personal feeling is that Emily is a totally different name. So for the past 4 months or so we take turns referring to her as Emmalynn and Emily. I just cant get on board with Emily being a nickname for Emmalynn...it doesnt seem right. I do like the name Emily on it's on, just not thrilled with it being used as a short version for Emmalynn because it seems like it's own separate name.
Last night I asked him if he wanted to name her Emily and he said he would prefer to, but would be fine with either. I loved Emmalynn because it's different, but I also love Emily because it's cute. So now I'm torn.
Which would you choose?

I can't imagine using the name emmalynn if your husband hates the name Emma. I'll admit I can't quite wrap my head around loving one and hating the other. I don't think I'd pick that knowing that neighbors, friends, coaches, etc will probably constantly call her Emma. If he's going to be okay with that use it, if not I'd probably go with Emily.

Same except my cousin didn't like the name Emma (his wife did) but, liked the name Emily.
Also - if you say Emmalynn quick, it sounds like Emily so people may think her name is Emily.

Trust me...I'm with you. I dont understand how he can love Emmalynn but hate Emma. The only difference is adding the "lynn" on the end  But he's SO adamant about people not calling her Emma. And I already see it happening. My mom, my SIL, Aunts, etc. are already referring to her as Emma and DH gets so annoyed. SO he refers to her as Emily and that just confuses me because it seems like we're talking about 2 different babies entirely.

Yes, this is so true. When we gets asked what we're naming her and I say Emmalynn, people are always immediately like "Emily?" and I have to clarify and over-pronounce so they hear it correctly  It didn't bother me in the beginning because I thought we were both very into the name, but with the nickname debate in full swing now, I'm starting to think it would just be easier all around to go with Emily.

Emily because I don't like how emmalynn ends in an N and Nora begins with an N. Emily flows better with Nora.

Emily. It seems like a no-brainer to me given the situation you describe. It's also always been one of my favorite names and was on my short list for DD but DH knew an Emily growing up who he couldn't stand so it was out!

I'd go with Emily.
DD's name is Emma, and so I obviously LOVE that name, but if your husband doesn't like that name, then I think you should just steer clear of Emmalynn.

I'm slightly obsessed with Emmalynn, but since your DH hates Emma, I'd go with Emily.
I still voted for Emmalynn though, on account of my obsession

Neither of us are fans of Lynn as a nickname. But yes, we did consider using "Emme" or "Emmie" as a nickname. I think he's just so stuck on Emily that he really wants to use that as her nickname. For me, I would likely either call her by her full name or just shorten it to "Em".

I think the idea of Emmalynn is nice because it's uncommon and Emily is everywhere, but I'm not a fan of the spelling (2 m and n right next to each other).
I wonder if Emilyn would work.. if someone asks her how to spell it she could just say "Emily with an n" lol.

I like Emmalynn over Emily because it is different. BUT, I don't really think Emmalynn Nora flows that well because of the the N at the end of Emmalynn. Also, given the situation with your husband, I would just go with Emily...but only if you love Emily too! If not, then maybe start all over with a completely different name?
I know how hard it is. My daughter was 2 days old before we actually agreed and decided on a name.
