We have Verizon and our contract is up. We are paying 165 for everything. We need to renew and they will give us 140 for the first year but the second year it will go up to 170. The optimum guy is stopping by tonight to give us his deal. We had optimum and I had no issues but I love Verizon so much now since I have had it for 5 years.
How is optimum the channels for kids still good?
We have a fire stick so we are not worried about movies or anything.

I had switched from Optimum to Fios yearsa ago because I hated it but switched back to save some $ and it has come a long way. I like it!

Optimum is the only service I can get (unless I quit Optimum and do streaming only). I have 2 movie channels, no On Demand, no DVR and still pay $190/month no matter how much I call and try to get it lowered.

Pretty sure we are going to go the streaming route very soon.

I pay about $250 a month for the triple play with some movie channels (HBO, Showtime and Starz) and the internet boost. The stupid cable box always has issues. I would switch if I could but verizon isn't available in my area yet.

ETA: I've spent so much time trying to get the bill lowered, they won't negotiate because they know verizon isn't available here yet. Makes me so mad.

Optimum has decent service. They will offer you a good sign on deal (probably $89/mo for a year maybe two), but bear in mind at the end of the contract your monthly bill will almost triple. We were paying as much as $260 before we left them. You are saving a good deal during the first two years. Kids channels are good and on demand is great for kids, though you have to pay extra for Disney on Demand.

I pay $180 with Showtime and Starz they threw in for free and 3 boxes. I have the package below Optimum Silver cant think of it right now.

Funny bc I am actually thinking of switching to Verizon. I have a lot of issues with DVR and VOD.

We had Verizon for two years, then our rate expired and I called up and they gave me a bunch of credits for another year. When the rate expired a year later they wouldn't budge. I priced Optimum for similar service and it was very similar to the price that Verizon wanted to charge. We actually wound up cord cutting with Optimum internet. We have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon prime, as well as local stations through a digital antenna. I actually don't really miss tv!

They are fine, I switch back and forth between them and Direct TV so I can get a better deal. I have no issues with either.

ETA - I did DEPLORE Optimums DVR box, it was awful!!...........so I always used a TIVO box when I had Optimum. I've been with Direct TV for almost 2 years now so I am not sure if the Optimum DVR has improved in that time.

i had verizon fios when i lived at home for like 10 years and hated that i couldnt afford it when i got married - we have optimum - for 2 boxes, multi room dvr, phone , internet but no movie channels we pay $125 and we're on no contract. our first year ends next month, and it looks like it will go up by $13. it still seemed to be less than verizon each time we priced. also, you get the optimum wifi hotspots which has been super convenient, access to newsday.... havent had any real issues with service.

i will add my coworker just tried to switch after a horrendous experience with verizon and optimum has been just as terrible. not much consistency i guess.
